Do you train with a partner? Why or why not?

I know this topic has been done before, but it's been awhile and I know we have plenty of new ladies since then. :)

What are the merits of training with/without a partner as you see it?

My take on training partners
I initially began training alone because I could never find a female partner who was interested in training hard and consistently. I used to keep trying to recruit friends as training partners, (as if Willow had friends :lmao: :worried: ), but eventually gave it up. I tried training with my fiance Josh, but that just didnt work....not at all! I trained with a guy friend very briefly but I have to say guys talk too much crap while lifting and I find it distracting, not motivating.

At this point I have to say I think I prefer to train alone. I can train at my own pace, I dont have to coordinate my workout with anyone else, and I can actually finish my workout much faster, which is great with my crazy busy schedule. Downside is when I'm low on motivation there's no one to kick my ass and, as I was discussing with musclemom in another thread, I've had to make some changes to my training program to allow for the lack of assists on pressing movements.

Now I think that unless I meet someone who just strikes me as an awesome potential training partner I'll keep training alone indefinitely.

Nope...alome - always.

If I need a spot - Ill ask for one.

Too much shit to deal with if you train with someone else in general for me

Exactly!

I've had a few women want me to train with them and they wimp out after our first kick ass leg training. Got tired of wasting my time. That and to much damn talking they do.

I'll work in a set with someone but otherwise I like to get in get it done and leave. No waiting on anyone ever.

I work out with my husband - but he doens't always work out with the intensity I do - he has different goals & sometimes complains about the workouts. But I train alone on leg day - he won't do legs.

I enjoy our walking to the gym together tho - it's OUR time.

Alone, cause women are put off by the myths of lifting weights, and would rather be eating a donut, or walking the treadmill. I tried training with stalker from the gym but he kept talking about how good I smell and sex, all while I was benching, and shaping my ass to look even better than it already does. So that does it, back to alone.

I used to train with a partner before that it was alone but now my training varies to much from my friends so we can't really train together. But working out with him was very motivating he yelled at me got me pumped for PR's and stuff it was good.

I would love to work out with someone else.. but i dont have any friends who work out...

When I used to go to the gym, I trained alone....unless I was actually training someone. They never lasted long.

I have an extra bedroom and have equipment now, so I always train alone. I get it done so much faster now that it's all right there, but I do miss the gym atmosphere.

Even if I would still be at the gym.....still - alone with headphones and with tunelvision (sp). Definitely!

HAve worked primarily w/ trainers and not partners. Some experience recently w/ a partner which was nice - but she was show -training, I wasn't. Generally I prefer alone. Its my time to try things I want to try, push myself / compete against myself and also clear out my brain.

Other people tend to just make me nervous. Most women can't keep up w/ my routine & I dont' deal w/ wusses.

same the girl across the hall goes to the gym to meet guys.. not my style.. and she pisses me off:P

Wow, I'm surprised. I expected there to be more ladies training with partners. Seems like all us singles are giving basically the same reasons for flying solo.

I started out alone, then a friend wanted me to teach her my routine, so we worked out together. The last two weeks she's been a no-show except for leg days, so it looks like I"m back to working out alone - which I'm happy about.

I train with a trainer who I love - sure, it's pricy but to me, the sessions are therapeutic and brings about a state of mental well-being for me, so it's worth it. He's 52 and looks like Bruce Willis. It would never look like we had anything in common, but both of us agree that our one hour sessions fly by very quickly. I hope to be able to continue the relationship with him for a while.

I have to say...training alone and training with a partner has both benefits...However, I was VERY much against training with someone else b/c I always had the goals and lifts that I wanted in mine. However, this past year, I met a very dear friend who has actucally become more of a sister than anything else and we both motivated eachother. She would push me to my limits and I would do hopefully the same for her. We had pretty much the same goals, and we would survive leg day together. We would share ideas and I have to admit chit chat a bit in between sets. Yet, it was fun b/c I knew I would see her at the gym :) Anyway, since going back to school I now train by myself and it is different. I miss her dearly, but at the same time, when I do go to the gym, its me, the music, and the weights. Its not as sociable b/c my friend isn't there, and there isn't anyone to push me but myself. I use this time in the gym to think, and hit the weights as hard as possible. Overall, from my experiences, I have to say I miss my training partner. She was the best!:)
