Do You have To Have a License to Fly a Gyrocopter? I'm ready to take to the sky

i've heard gyrocopters as just the opposite, very safe. my dad's had a pilots license for 20 some years and i was looking into gyrocopters about 7 or 8 yrs ago. what's the fatality statistics for gyrocopters the last few years? i think they are pretty low

If I'm not mistaken, any aircraft under 170 pounds (may be different but close) does not require a license. However, you should still get instruction. Well worth it. And while it is true that the top rotor is not powered, it is actually forward movement that causes the rotor to spin and create the lift. I have actually read about EXPERIENCED gyro pilots that turn off their engines and nose down to land. Gotta be a rush.

Good luck.

So what do ya'll think of the deal on the ebay sounds cheap to get in the air which makes me a little nervous. How much is a new one? Also how fast are they?

get one of those parachute gliders.. with the big fan pushing from the rear. those are awesome, and if your motor goes out you have a parachute to glide to safety :D

Those don't look dangerous enough for me. :D

I don't think you need a license because I think its classed as experimental.

next thing you know, curling will be pulling wheelies on that damn thing too... and asking it it's not a good idea to have a license for that
