Do you consider yourself patriotic?

If you do, then how do you define patriotism? Some would say that if you don't stand firmly behind what the president and the government is trying to achieve, then you are NOT patriotic. If you don't fully support Bush's policy's and his decisions regarding Iraq, then you are a traitor in the eyes of real patriots of this country.
Is that what defines patriotism? Are you patriotic by this definition? To me, blindly following and standing up for what the president says and does does NOT define patriotism. Because if this were the case, then, by definition, those citizens who firmly believed in and followed everything Hitler said and did back in the day were definitely patriotic. I'm not going to blindly follow Bush like those sheep followed Hitler (1but I'm sure there were many more German people who hated what Hitler was doing, but still loved their country).
I see these people more like "loyalists to the current government regime" more than patriotic to their country. I don't consider myself loyal to Bush's agendas, but I do love my country.

I too, love my country. I do not agree with Mr. Bush all the time... in fact, I quite frankly don't like anything about him except for the way he talks :) Very simple and down to earth.

However, just becasue I didn't agree with GW didn't stop me from serving in the Military. I am now a Veteran. Nothing that anyone ever says, does, or implies about this country will ever take that fact away.

Am I patriotic? I loved my country enough to serve in the military knowing damn well that I would probably end up over 'there'. I did end up 'there', but I am back and I am still alive (unlike many friends who weren't so lucky) to tell about how amazing this country really is in terms of freedom... Freedom of religion, speech, press, things that we take for granted are things that other people will only ever dream about...

God Bless America!

This country was formed by a bunch of people (the original patriots) that told the king to go fuck himself. Thus, blindly following the leader would be, by its very nature, unpatriotic.

Fuck the king. :)

I am a big patriot. I love my country to death. It doesnt mean that if I think that my countries president is doing an awfull job, that I am not a patriot. I love my people and I hate anyone or any other country that would stand in their way. Fuck what the president says

I was until something weird happened to our freedom. Thank God for the 2 term limit.

Otherwise an admin could embroil us in wars while convincing us that are there to protect us better than anyone else can.

Patriotism is the love for your own country and ITS CITIZENS.

I personally believe you are a hypocrit (like 90% of right wing republicans) if you claim to be PATRIOTIC but have such prejudices such as race, sexuality, and socioeconomic class.

if you are patriotic you want to help EVERYONE in your country to be happy. not just one or two specific groups.

I'm patriotic, but not blind. Learning to question things and events does not mean that you're unpatriotic. In fact, I think that makes you more patriotic than those who follow blindly.
