Do you believe in signs?

PHATchik

I'm drinking some brandy and thinking. It sounds nutty, but it is a legitmate question. You'll hear people say, "it's a sign." DO you they think they actually exist? Friday night, I almost did a very bad thing, but I didn't. Thursday night, I asked God for a sign to let me know what to do. Well, it started pouring the snow that night and I had to go home early instead of sticking around Knoxville. Looking back on it, I think it's a much better thing that I just skipped spending an extra night. Yeah, this all sounds very mysterious, but details aren't important. But anyway, do you think that some weird things that happen are truly signs that should tell us something?

i do not believe in them at all.

People can attribute meaning to anything...but it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Perhaps. I'll admit I've been thinking a lot deeper lately than I used to. SO maybe I was searching for a sign.

Its like the story when someone who's about to commit suicide hears the song Blackbird (from the Beatles). After hearing the song, the person takes it as a sign that he shouldn't kill himself and live onwards. Years later, he thanks Paul McCartney for the song and tells him the story...

...and Paul says that the group just wrote the song to make a little money.

Then again, there's that movie Frailty.

I have had a "feeling" Couldn't explain it,but that day i started to call off my trip-but went ahead anyway ,that evening a dog ran out in front of me on the way home causing me to loose control-i hit the ditch head on right where a cement drain pipe was,the truck went airborn crashed several times, a few minutes i was pulled from the wreckage a few seconds after that the truck blew up into a fireball. I was out of work over a year...reflecting back i now realize that feeling was a sign of something to come... I have had that feeling only once after the accident, I stayed home that day!

I can't say that I blame you. :)

On a more serious note, I believe that there is more to everything than we perceive, I can’t explain it but it makes me wonder. Why do things happen, or why don’t they. I’ve heard stories like yours Radar, (that’s too bad man, I feel for you) maybe it is just easier to go through everything just believing that we aren’t really alone.

Signs exist, but like OTHER things you have to leave yourself open to them, you really do need to heed all of my advice, I don't need to hear about you doing anything else you might have regreted had you gone through with it

Sometimes I can feel or see the future very clearly. It can be spooky in the accuracy.

Here lately I realize that I have no extraordinary future and see nothing but same o, same o.

Our standard of living is going to take a huge crap except for the rich. I know that. I'll be along for the ride. If I come across some real money, I am out of here before it becomes much worse.

Yeah, I believe in signs, and the best ones are the ones God sends that you don't ask for...the ones that strain coincidence.

As they say in A.A., God speaks through people and there are no coincidences.

Imo the snowing could also have lead you to the reaction "Oh it's snowing.....too unsafe to travel, I better stay a couple of extra days." imo you were already slightly doubtfulk and this just gave you that extra push.

Oh yeah!

"Do Not Lean On The Doors"
"No Smoking"'
"Things Are Closer Than They Appear"

I believe we are given a path to walk on, but we must choose to walk it. Sometimes there may be "nudges" to go in certin directions. Albeit "signs" or instincts taking over.

yeah- I definately wonder about that, like especially when I have been thinking alot about something happening and then it does. Or even better - when I am trying to get something I want and I get these roadblocks - I am learning to back out when that stuff happens!! Maybe its just a chick thing though...

Yes and no.

Not everything we like to think of as signs are signs. Signs oddly enough ared thinks we don't want to believe and less of the things we want to happen.

I trust my gut. I think we have instincts for a reason so if something doesn't feel right I avoid it.

I don't think that I believe in signs per se, but more so "everything happening for a reason." This singular thought is what gets me through difficult situations that seem to have no reason. I accept that it is happening, try to learn something from it and move continue to move forward.

TRUST THE GUT AT ALL TIMES.

Perhaps the belief in signs and things like that are nothing more than our yearning for answers or explanations. I wasn't happy to see the snow come, but yes, I knew if I stuck around too long, it wouldn't be safe so I went home. Maybe it wasn't a sign, maybe it was. What I had planned probably was a bad idea anyway. lol.

What tuc said.

I catch myself doing the same thing, looking at something after it happens and wondering if it was a sign or not. Go with what your gut is telling you, if there are doubts, they are there for a reason. :)

Well I don't know if this was a sign or anything??? But here is a story about my father in Vietnam. I shouldn't be alive today!

This is a 100% True story and i've got newspaper clippings at my dads house to prove it.

My father was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam for a few various things, mainly a lot of medical pickups and transports. Well on this perticular day my father recieved a new flight suit in the morning. Later that afternoon they got an urgent call and had to leave as quick as possible. My father went to grab his new flight suit, but couldn't find it after some looking and had no choice but to put on his old flight suit. They leave and while flying over some heavily wooded areas (yes I know they are all heavily wooded there, LOL) they started to encounter .50 caliber fire from the ground along with other firearms. I'm not sure what size bullet it was but the next thing that happened was a bullet came through the bottom of the helicopter and struck my father in the chest and knocked him out of his seat. After regaining concusiusness and i guess after completing what they had set out to do they returned to base. This is where the story gets weird. My father was trying to figure out what had happened and where the bullet was that hit him. Well in his left front breast pocket there was a small hand bible, which held the bullet that hit him. The "sign" part is that his new flight suit was so new that he hadn't had time to transfer his old belongings into the new flight suit, thus there was no bible in the breast pocket of his new suit. So if he would have found his new flight suit for that mission he would be dead today so would I and my brother.
