Do you ask for a lift off?

How many here get their partner's to give them a Lift-off when bench pressing?

I work out alone so it don't have the option but even if I did have a spotter to help lift the weight off the rack I don't think that I would have them.

I figure that if you can lift the weight and do the set you are better off than just doing the set itself with a lift off.

Any opinions?

Edited to Add: If it were in a competition I would get a lift off but I'm talking about in training.

I prefer a liftoff on anything over 225 because it just hurts my shoulders and I have gotten used to it this way.

Always, always in comp. I like that. I get last second cues from my brother about the signals etc. It has just become a part of the comp ritual.

Its very difficult to keep your shoulder blades together on the bench once you've set yourself. I would loose my setup too if I didn't have a lift. And it sure makes a difference who hands off to you. Any high level PL at a comp will tell you - your bench can either rock or bomb...depending on the hand-off.

yeah, if someone doesn't know what they are doing it can totally ruin your lift....Just the other day, some dude i didn't know gave me a hand off and you would have thought he was deadlifting or something, taking 50% or more off and then dropping it right on top of me..........some people don't know how to lift off so you should let them know what you want.

I am kind of a snob on this. I only trust my training partners for a lift. Like everybody said, you can't keep your shoulder blades together without a good pick. Maybe it's mental on my part, but I need to know somebody understands how to lift off just for me.
