Do prisoners actually receive "rehabilitation"?

You have changed the subject. I quoted your saying that punishment is not an effective method in dealing with crime. "Putting someone through hell" is not a crime.

Blowing up buildings = a crime.

McVeigh was punished (he was executed)

He hasn't blown up anymore buildings.

Less crime. Proof that punishment works.

Don't blame the death penalty for the public and the victim's families hell - blame our carebear judicial system.

they need to fire up the electric chair more often. they should allow the guards to beat the inmates.

do you realize i pay $25.00 every month to work out. they get weights for free everyday.

they do get the chance for reform programs. most dont take it.

Most prisons have eliminated the weights from the free activity areas. The imnates were getting bigger than the guards - most of which were overwight and failed their physicals. Supermax prisons have no weights or fitness equipment and inmates only get one hour per day to leave their cells.

Most inmates are given the oppertunity to take classes to receive their GED but only a few are offered real world classes - auto shop, computer classes etc.

amen captain......I beleive some offenders should be looked at as rehablitative candidates, like drug offenders or thiefs. But violent offenders, especially murderers, rapists and child molesters, pose too great a risk to society. Imagine a rehabilitation program that has a 90% success rate with rapists....sounds good? well, that's 10% that get let out and rape again. Anything short of 100% is too great a risk, and anyone that say's it isn't hasn't had their sisters, mothers, wifes raped.

Child molestors, rapists and violent offenders are all in their own classes. Charles Dutton was in jail for 8 years for a violent crime - he received no rehab what so ever but he managed to establish a career, direct films and write a few books.

Either you offer rehab to all inmates or none at all. If someone is busted for selling heroin then that makes him less of a person? What if he lost his job, had a family to support and needed money to pay rent, get food and provide? I am not saying it is right - but it puts him in a different class than a junkie selling to get his fix.

Non violent crimes should be probation with stiffer requirements - not this "community service" bullshit going on now. Prostitution, pandering, public intoxication, shoplifting etc... Why are taxpayers dollars spent to house these people for 48 hours - 30 days when they can be doing community service - cleaning up roadsides, picking up trash, attending AA meetings etc. As it stands now community service is pretty much a joke - there is little supervision, pathetic record keeping and most times the offenders only serve less than half of the appointed time.

If you arrest someone for selling drugs, and they go right back in that environment after jail time, well, we know what will happen.

Hell no prison doesn't rehabilitate anyone! It's purpose should be to lock up violent bastards and keep them away from me!
