Do I look like a freak?

I am 5'11 , 178 lbs. with 9% body fat. My arms measure 16 inches cold and flexed, I have a 33 inch waist and my calves are only 13.5 inches.
I keep hearing that your calves should be the same size as your arms but I am obviously way off! No matter what I do my calves will not grow. Anybody else have this problem or have similar differences in arm/calf measurements or am I just a freak?

I don't think thats too odd. My calfs are a little bigger that my arms. My arms are 17 cold and my calfs are a little over 17. Yeah I do think that you would want your calf, arms, and neck to measure the same though.

if youre being judged in a contest, then ya. otherwise who the hell cares, get e verything big

For your height, these measurements would be proportionally and aesthetically desired (in general):

height 5'-11"
weight 209 lbs.
arms 17 3/4"
neck 17 1/2"
chest 49"
waist 32 1/2"
thighs 25"
calves 16 1/2"

As to calves, you either have them or you don't. Some guys are lucky but others, no matter how hard they work them, they just don't develop significantly.

my arms are a little over 17", my neck 20", and calves are 15" and i'm 5'5" 185. SO basically i just wear pants to the beach! now that looks freaky.

My arms are like 15 3/4 maybe 16 when pumped, but my calves are at 17 and I hardly ever train them. Wish my arms would fill out faster.

Have any of you been able to significantly increase calf size? I would love to hear from anyone that has gone from stick legs like mine to decent size calves. I obviously have no interest in ever competing or anything like that but I would like to feel comfortable wearing shorts in the summer!!!
I would appreciate any tips on training. I have tried several different routines obviously with no success. I don't have a problem getting my arms chest etc. to respond but those damn calves are stubborn!

You ever hear of Jump Stretch? When I played football, I used to go there and do my workouts with their bands. It was like 5 bucks a session and it was killer. They kill your legs with crazy ass band stuff. Great for cardio too, you sweat like a mother doing that shit. I added a clean 100 pounds to my squat doing that for over a year. And all my leg/calve measurements went up a lot too.

I'd look into it.

I'm only a few inches taller, other than that we are exactly the same.

so you've got tiny calves

sucks but you can't do anything about it. except get calf implants. and that would just be gross

Thanks CasualBB!! Calling them tiny makes me feel a lot better about it!!!!
You are right though....I just need to get over it and not let it bother me.
I don't want them bad enough to do implants. It's not worth the risks, pain, recovery time, etc...

hey it could be the opposite, I've got large calves but small everything else ... you take what you get

I lived on a lake all my life and learned to water ski when I was 3. By 10 I was competing in different events and tricking and barefooting. I skied every day from late march til early november. I had the strongest calves. I could dunk a basketball when I was 12. When I was in high-school I remember doing more weight than almost everybody on calf raises, BUT.......my calves were always small. I have accepted it. Me being an ecto doesn't help I guess. I still work them, they're not as small as they used to be but they do not match the rest of my body.

Just have to work with what you got. I have a 50" watermelon head and 12" penis but I don't complain it :) You should see me a the beach in my bikini breifs. Just kidding!!
Genetics makes things difficult but not impossible. I notice that squats and stiff leg DL do a lot for my calves and right now I don't do anything else to work them.

Thanks and K to those of you that responded, except for needtogetgas, thanks for nothing.
I do not do much cardio. Would running or biking help my calves much? I'll try working on DL and squats a little more and see if that gets me anywhere. I may try to post a pic if I can find the batteries for my digicam. In the meantime I'll just keep wearing slacks when it is 101 degrees outside!!!!

I'll never compete, so I wouldn't worry about the differences. I've played bball all my life and have found that jumping seems to build the calves quite well. Being slender all of my life (until now), my calves always seemed a bit larger than they should, now they seem fairly in proportion.
I've been told I walk like a gorilla and I'm a freak. Cool, the training is working.
Besides, if we're body builders, are we expected to look like freaks?........

nm -- honestly bro, with calves that small on a frame that big, you're never gonna have 15" calves from working out. You said yourself you already tried everything.

You just have naturally small calves,

The sooner you accept it the easier it'll be

do you guys measure your calves just by finding the largest place on ur calve? (that u get the largest measurement)
