Do different types of alcoholic beverages create different personality changes

When i drink whiskey i become a mellow drunk, same with beer. however i tried some wild irish rose and i became an angry drunk for some reason. then i look up bum wines and i find this quote

http://www.tcsn.net/rags/bum/

"It's called "wild" for a good reason, and bystanders should beware. Wild Irish Rose is sure to light a fire of drunken rage in your soul."

So i take it im not the only one who gets angry for no reason on this particular alcohol. So if alcohols do affect you differently why is that or is it a myth.

i'm pretty sure it has more to do with what is going on in your head or subconscious at the time......

I tend to agree although I have seen an awful lot of people who react differently to getting bombed on hard liquor vs. beer....

i was wondering if the other products in the beverage had other effects on the mind. Like irish rose is a red 'wine' so it probably has alot of chemicals that whiskey does not.

for me I am a mellow and happy drunk if I am around good people, but I anger easily and have a quick temper sober,so I avoid alcohol since I am afraid of hurting someone, and it makes me fat

I know some people that are fine when they drink beer, but if they drink any hard alcohol they become very nasty. This isn't a here and there thing with these people. It happens every time.

when I drink certain beer I'm ussually hella fired up and in this party mood

when I drink hard a I'm usually passing out somewhere, either that or hittin on random chicks and failling miserably, especially if I had too much

Vodka and Gin are always good time alcohols for me. They always put me in a happy buzz mode.

Tequila makes me either real horny or real violent, and i have no control on which one so I stay away from it.

When I drink I am usually the mellowest person in the party.

But if anyone says the word "hella" BAM! It's like someone flipped a switch and I just beat their asses down.

:drink2:

Also you guys are being silly.

Alcohol is the only psychoactive compound in alcoholic beverages unless you cound RBV, Irish Coffee, etc.

It's like saying Generic hydrocodone gives you a mellow buzz but Lortab makes you feel amped. And Vicodin gives you the jitters.

It's all the same active ingredient.

because potentially they are consuming more alcohol at a more rapid rate.

alcohol is alcohol.

thats what i figured but im trying to figure out why people react differently to different alcohols.

hard alcohol gets you drunk quicker......and more often than not, more drunk. so, this may be the cause for a more aggressive change in behavior.

i am usually a happy drunk regardless :)

oddly enough i just finished of 600ml of wild irish rose and im not angry at all. So perhaps it is all mental and mindset related.

Jagermeister is (or was) said to get your aggression going.

i have found this to be true. although I can't really tell because when I drink some jager I tend to get out of hand (over consumption)

fyi, you know you're in a bad strip club when you order shots and you get mad dog. classy, like freddy blassy.

all alcoholic beverages contain ethanol the chemical formula C2 H6 O Just the concentration is different(hence % by volume) i doubt an other additive will have any oither effects on your mood..... Some of your arguments are so stupid,,, "red skittles make me happy and horny when i eat them,,,, the green ones make me angry"

the Buzz does feel different after drinking hard A and or beer V.S red wine though....

In a different way the cognac buzz is also a bit different (very distinct imo).

I don't do anything crazier after drinking one or the other but it definately feels different.

I can't logically figure this out though if ethanol is in fact the only active ingredient in alcholic drinks...

i know that hangovers vary based on alcohols, like some people dont get hangovers from alcohol X but do from Y. red wine usually gives a hangover alot more often than vodka so if hangovers vary based on beverage than maybe so does drunkenness.

I think its all bullshit.

I'm the same no matter what booze I pound.... and its all righteous.

Most people say shit about tequila messing you up, but I never have any problems with it. It's my favorite. :)

I get really horny when I start drinking, but that's about it. I also get giggly. :)

that is actually true. scotch apparently gives you the least hangover.

making you phisically sick afterwards and making you drunk the night before are two different things.

drinking gasoline will give you a hell of a headache the next day but it ain't getting you high.

Back when I drank heavily in university, the only difference I noticed was that I'd get drunk a lot faster on carbonated beverages as opposed to straight liquor.

scotch??

I thought it was vodka

ok im pulling rank because i get annoyed at having to explain this to morons who come up to me with these bullshit theories in real life

i had this talk with a pharmacokinetics professor and this is what he said:

mixing drinks and getting drunk differently is total bullshit. ethanol is ethanol, and it doesnt matter if you get it from beer, scotch, or a fermented sultana.

the difference is in how fast it gets into your body. liquers are more concentrated and hence will diffuse into your blood very quickly. beer is less concentrated, but has more bulk. therefore if you drink it fast, it gets into your intestine quite quickly and so you can absorb it quite quickly. nay fat in a drink will slow dawn gastric emptying and therefore slow the movement of alcohol into your intestine.

so, its all the same thing, but different drinks, different mixes, and what you have eaten at the time will change your absorption profile over time, and that can have a different psychological effect

anything that cmakes your blood alcohol spike (liquor) is obviously going to have a different effect (on the same person) than a low alcohol drink that will gradually make them tipsy, even with the same amount of ethanol in either drink

hmm that was long...

you may be thinking of SKYY vodka that advertises that aspect.

I think perhaps this study was done before triple-distilled vodka was introduced.

Like i fyou picked on rum one beer, one scotch, one vodka, and red wine and one beer at random, chances are the scotch woudl give you least hangover.

anyway GD good post. freakin' show-off! :D

I've read from a couple different sources that the colored liqours will actually cause a worse hangover due to the tannins contained within. Personally I can tell the difference in hangover intensity between different brands of alcohol. For example I know I will be hungover as hell after a night of drinking Crown but if I've been drinking vodka I usually just feel tired and fuzzy headed. Could just be me though.
