Do different Flax Oils have vastly different tastes? wtf?

Bran, you can get "flax meal" which is ground up seeds at Bulk Barn. Store in freezer so it doesn't go rancid, sprinkle some in with the AM oats.

Much better than the oil..

whats the difference between the high lignan and the regular anyway bc i always bought the high lignan thinking it was better ins ome way but it makes me almost puke so maybe ill switch

I like "Barlean's highest lignan flax oil". It tastes kind of like nuts, but definetly tastes some time to get the taste aquired. Make sure wherever you buy it keeps it refrigerated and not just on some shelf.

So Juve...

How many tbsp of flaxseeds would you recommend in a day to get daily Omega-3 requirements?

And if they don't contain DHA/EPA, then what are the benefits of the flaxseeds, exactly?

3 tbsp seeds = 1 tbsp oil?

I bought my first bottle of flax oil a few months ago and finished it. It didn't have much of a taste at all except for oily taste.

The only ingredient in that bottle was the flaxseed oil.
--------------

This next bottle I bought has a spoiled type taste to it, but says it doesn't expire until June 2005.

It's "Health from the Sun" Liquid Gold Flax Oil - Vegetarian Omega-3
Nitrogen sealed freshness guaranteed, cold-pressed unrefined.

The ingredients in this bottle are: flax oil, rosemary extract, mixed tocopherols (Vit E), ascorbyl palminate (Vit C) and citric acid to protect freshness.

Do you think those extra ingredients are what is making it taste like shit or do you think I got a spoiled bottle????????

I bought the same brand of flaxseed oil last time and I thought it was spoiled. It was just the taste though. I will definately try a different brand next time lol.

doesn't it just taste like somebody opened a fresh bottle of flax oil and used it as a toilet?

I got my flax meal here juve!

"DO YOU EAT WHOLE FLAX SEED?"

If you do, you may not get its entire nutritious Omega-3 oil benefits.

That's why we recommend our specially milled flax seed. We break it down for you!

Unlike whole flax seed which cannot be digested, our specialty-milled flax seed allows your body the opportunity to fully absorb the benefits of the heart healthy Omega-3 oils.

One servings (1 TBSP) of our Milled Flax Seed provides you with 2600 mg of Omega-3 oils!

My advice:
Buy flax seeds.
Rationale:
1)Flax oil, when exposed to air, rapidly oxidizes and the byproduct of the aforementioned oxidation are oxidative metabolites/free radicals. This is a problem with many emulsified oils, including fish oil, just to a lesser extent.
2)You never know how the oil was produced - it better be cold-pressed, but supplement companies will say anything to sell
3)Flax seeds - very high in fiber, have some protein, rich in naturally occuring nutrients as opposed to filtrated oil.

Eat flax seeds - choke 3tbsp with protein shake or dump it in your oats or whatever 'cutting carbs' (lol) you consume :o

This sounds more like a rational to buy good quality oil. How much air is your oil exposed to? Zero.

At least for me, oil is much more practical because in the Synpax diet, it is nearly your only source of fat and eating 9 tbsp of seeds is probably a bad idea.

I had 3 TBSP at breakfast :nerd:

I've heard a combined 2 grams of EPA/DHA is enough to fulfill daily requirements. I have fish oil capsules. Each one has 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA. That's 300 mg combined each pill. So I figure 7 pills will equal 2100 mg, or 2.1 grams a day.

This sound good? Juve, in particular?

NEVERMIND
http://hdlighthouse.org/see/diet/triad/diet/epadha.htm

Read that, everyone. ;)

I'm going to take 11 pills - that's 1980 mg (1.98g) EPA a day, with a good amount of DHA following. Only costs me $0.33 and it gives the recommended 2g (almost) of EPA daily.

Safflower Oil for Omega-6's
Flaxseed Oil for Omega-3's
Fish Oil Caps for EPA/DHA

This doesn't get any easier.

Also keeping very close to a 1:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 acids.
