I recommend getting a scratch post. One of my mother's cats, would always work its claws into the side of her couch when it was a kitten. Eventually, it became an outside cat (she lets it out like dog - its on a schedule - no catbox) and now it does the clawing thing on the trees and doesn't mess with the furniture.
Its a baby, its going to eat a lot. Get it a few catnip toys. They have it at the supermarket.

my outdoor kitty hunts all day, she is the top of the food chain in my yard...I've seen her spring into the air and catch birds mid flight...also she caught a rabbit the other day and ate the whole thing. the rabbit was as big as her....when I say she ain't the whole thing I mean the entire thing, like skull, brain, bones, everything. I didn't know cats could do that.

I agree. My mom's cats kill birds and leave them on the porch for them (my family) to see in the morning. They also kill the field mice. One of them fought a racoon, but the racoon won that fight and killed the cat. They also climb trees, and hangout with the dog next door. I'm amazed by it too.
