i went for my workout today and an incident happened that made me have a horrible bench day... i just couldnt concentrate...

my friend was unloading a bar, and he pulled all the plates off one side on the power rack(idiotic i know, i guess he wasnt thinking), and it comes up and slashes him in the eye, leaving a nice gash along the side of his eye... so he left and went to the hospital to get stitches...and from then on i couldnt concentrate.

also my pastor made me change bars because he is an idiot and decided to change bars 1 training week a way from the contest im going to... so that threw me off too because it was a thick black bar that i couldnt grip so well(small hands)... so pretty much, my last bench workout went to waste before the contest..

last week i put up 185 with a little struggle..and just missed 195... today, i didnt even come close to 190
THIS SUCKS!


i hate to take my weeks rest before the contest without having a good lift to think back on...

im pretty sure it would be too soon tobench again on friday...what can i do?
 
how much do you wiegh, and how old are you. sorry to hear about your buddy by the way, ive done that before on the squat rack. i wasnt thinking either except the bar missed me and put a whole in the ceiling
 
Hey man, are you doing the meet in Jersey held by the 2 churches?

If so I'm gonna be there too. My friend said the Pastor is real nice and let him bench there last year. So we decided to go this year and do all three lifts. I knew there were gonna be young peeps there, but 14 damn!
 
i'd rather be deadlifting.. its at the hillside lutheren brethan church... who's your pastor? my pastor is pastor pete, and if your pastor is some guy who does strong man events or a guy named newton, i met them a few nights ago
 
id rather be deadlifting.. most people at thje contest are going to be about 16 + i am one of the youngest.... what weight class are you in and what are your totals?
 
Hey man. I'm a bit older, 22 actually.

I'll weigh in the mid-150's and compete in the 165 class.


These are pretty sad, but here ya go:

I'm gonna open with these:

Squat-300
Bench-200-raw(if my bench shirt comes and I like it, I'll open higher)
Dead-405


Not sure where I'm gonna go from there, but I am confident I can hit those no problem. Do you know if anybody there is gonna be near my age? I'm gonna feel like a loser if I go up against all people 5 years younger than me. This is my first time competing, so I'm just trying to get my feet wet.
 
dont worry man you'll do fine, we have some guy who is either gonna be in your class or 148, but he totals over 1000... he is 21...he competed alot, in nationals, states.. etc...
another guy, gary, is 22 i think, and totals near 1500..
then you have people who dont even total 600....there are some big lifts....somenoe in your class has the EXACT lifts as you except maybe 10 lbs less on bench

are you positive it is the hillside lutheren brethan church contest, on march 2nd???
 
That's the one man. It is advertised in the January issue of Powerlifting USA.

That's awesome that there will be some guys my age there, and that there will be all types of lifters, those just starting out and those that are highly competitive.

One of my buddies going with me will total somewhere in the 1500ish range, but he is like 215-220.


Do you guys do age groups? Or is it every man for himself, hehe?
 
wow 1500... we go by weight classes..i think its like 114, 123, 132, 148, 165, 181, 212 heavy weight....

i'll c ya at the comp... i'll be wearing a true strength t-shirt (along with 40 other people) im a short(5'6") blonde hair kid

I'll be there, with a few other guys from NY. When you see the guy I'm talkin about open his squat with like 6 plates, I'll be the littlest guy spotting him. No idea what I'll be wearing.
 
whats your name...i'll hear it when they call it over the loud speaker to bring u up for your lift
also, if you have any clean(no curse) songs, they will play it for you while you lift
 
also, make sure on squats you go to ATLEAST paralel, and for deaadlift, make sure you dont just drop the weigh at the top, you have to go back down holding onto it or else it wont count i dont think... and bench, you dont really need a pause just go down and press it up.
 
I go plenty deep on Squats.

Deads I bring the bar down fairly under control, but it still hits the floor hard after a mx attempt.

Bench- touch and go will be perfect since I may be going raw.

Do many of you guys use equipment? Bench shirts, squat suits, wraps, belts?


I will be using a belt and wraps...bench shirt if it comes in time.
 
lol go for it. im squating to enter sandman, and deadlifting to sevendust- praise

you'll be on the "heavy platform" which i s 165 and above, so you'll be lifting with the big boys, so to speak. you'll have fun, its a full day event, good environment, you'll get some tips, every one is nice

Tell me this:

How long is there approx. between your 3 attempts of each lift. Meaning, after my opener in the squat, how long until I do my 2nd attempt?
