Get a LIFE you guys. I dont have time to come on here and listen to this, you guys spend all day on here (even though my post-per-day number vastly exceeds yours). Ive already gotten lots of karma for my posts on this thread.

You guys need to GROW UP!

It doesn't surprise me that this Author was watching Fox news.

He is in SOME senses right about how this was an issue that has been brewing for decades now.

It happens when people become POOR and DESPERATE. These people were modern day slaves for the most part, and it is sick. All it took was something to break down the chains that society had put around them and we saw the true colors show.

People should be appalled at this. Yes, raping, looting, beating, stealing, that is appalling, but what DROVE THESE PEOPLE TO DO IT is WORSE! You have desperate people, with NOTHING now, what little they had in life is gone, so what do you expect them to do??? People in Iraq are given more respect then the poor in our own country. Part of another reason why we are so sick, we spend billions overseas for people who are not even our own citzens, but we leave an entire city like New Orleans to live in poverty?

That is why the federal response was so slow, it just was not a priority.

I don't know about any of you, but if I had no shelter, no food, nothing, I would do anything within my power to survive. It would get ugly. You just expect these people to calmly die without a struggle or fight??

Hopefully this serves as a wake up call that the country has things we need to fix. We are a community, a NATION, why do we let masses of people like this fall into such sub par living?

I see where you are coming from, but I personally cannot agree.

People are poor and desperate all over the world. I've seen poor and desperate folks in a few countries throughout the middle east of all places, and none of them acted in the manner that these folks down in N.O. did. You know why? Because folks in Saudi, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc are not used to the government providing them with food, shelter, preferential treatment in some circumstances, etc. People in Afgahnistan dont sit on plastic lawnchairs waiting for their foodstamps to come in the mail so they can purchase steaks on a daily basis when their neighboors who actually work for a living clip coupons in order to afford roast beef.

Modern day slaves? Youre joking, right? These people barely even work, and thats because they choose not to.

You are right about one thing, what drove these people to do this (raping, looting, etc) is indeed worse...because what drove them to do this was an overindulgent government that spends billions of dollars per year feeding and clothing these animals who have nothing but a defeatist mentality and have grown use to the government giving them what they want when they want it.

OK guys...don't get my thread locked. This is a good article.
I have to disagree with that man.

Its how my parent think, and how I used to think. I grew up in a Christian middle class household, totally sheltered from the "real world".. I too thought that people who were poor were just lazy.

But I got older, and wiser. I learned that crime and poverty are CORRELATED. There is a reason why my middle class neighborhood didn't have crime, we all had food on our tables every evening for dinner.

Some people are born with LITTLE OR NO CHANCE of that, even in this country!! But its sad to see that the most religious of people would rather help those overseas, then help our own. They would rather spend money to spread god's word in new guinie, then to put food on the tables of poor families in new orleans.

The ironic part is, I bet most of the new orleans poor ar christian.
