Discuss: Ronnie Coleman disses barbell curls

also we don't really even know if Ronnie wrote that article... theres a lot of ghostwriting in the world of bodybuilding.
Yeah..... and he still gets paid !!!! LOL :)

It reminds me those "ask the champ" columns in the BB mags. Like the champs are really sitting down and going through thousands of letters and answering the question. Fuck....the questions are probably made up too !!!

I didn't read the article, but from my personal experience I don't like bb curls, even when I go low in weight.

I much prefer preacher curls or something that can better isolate the muscle. I also agree that heavy back workouts are probably one of the best exercises to work bis. My bis feel it just as much on a back day then on a bi day.

That is why, for me, both are hit in the same workout session.

Good point.

I know for a fact sometimes they are made up.

A long time ago, I was friends with Mike Mentzer. About the time I started college, he and I talked about self-esteem or somesuch thing--I can't really remember.

Imagine my surprise when, over a year later, there's a Muscle and Development article with MY name on a "reader's letter." It talks about how I'm all shy, that I'm "so massive" or some goofy stuff that I cover up with baggy clothes.

I'm pretty sure Ron Harris even wrote about that "letter" once at T-mag.

I don't hold that against Mike, may he forever RIP, nor am I likely to mention that to Ron; I doubt he'd care, and it'd just give him that much more reason to rip on a dead man.

However, it made me take an even harder look at those magazines and their wild stories.

Speaking of ghost-writers, anyone notice how so many champ's articles are written in the same style--that so many of those articles throw out tons of big words, as if the "champ" decided to show off his vocabulary?

Makes you go, hmmm...

While I was in the gym I thought of two things:

1) Ronnie is a BB. I guess his point is to disregard the BB/DB curls if you are trying to work *only* on your biceps. I guess they are good if you are looking for broader development.

2) Why doesn't he mention concentration curls? Those seem ideal for targeting the biceps.

The cable crossover curls are actually concentration curls with cables but 2 handed instead of one. (also called front biceps pose curls)

Your meant to do them with little weight and go for the squeeze

I agree. The BB mags..... IMHO.... have lost much credibility over the last 10 years or so. I understand it is a business and profitability is a top priority, However.... today they seem more like an advertisers platform with a few B.B. articles thrown in and many of the articles are directly related to the advertisers products. It has got out of hand.
Yes....one of them things that make you go.....
Hmmmmmmmmmm.............................

Well I think the "bulk" of your bi devleopment comes from back workouts, which is why on bi day (I work bis a different day then back) I go with more isolation exercises.
