that is a possibility. warren buffet was offered a $10,000 bet if he made a putt and he would only pay $1 if he didn't make it and he turned it down. he said him losing $1 was too rich for his blood and it would be too much of an undisciplined move. warren buffet is notorious for his frugalness though.
