Dips

HIGH COTTON

New member
What are yalls opinion on dips? Are they bad for your shoulders?

I use to do them all the time & loved them....but I hurt my shoulder about 4 years ago & have since structured my workout around my injury. The shoulder feels good now, so I am wondering if I do dips will there be high percentage that I will reinjure my shoulder.

Thanks for the replies

Dips dont seem to help my bench. but nothing seems to help my bench..

BUT, i loves dips for muscle mass, makeS my chest and tris blow up... good exercise..

IMO as long as you stay above parrallel I mean 90 degree angle (no deep dips) you should be fine. Dips are the greatest! :chomp:

I do just under parallel dips but i make sure my rotator cuff is warmed up well. when i used to do them without shoulder warm ups, it hurt like hell to do a deep dip, but it's fine now. I like them.

The main issue with trying dips again is that you are stuck with bodyweight at a minimum so if you have some issue in your shoulder or imbalance which would be affected by this, you could be jamming heavy weight on it right away. I don't usually say this but maybe find a machine or do some bench dips or something to get lighter resistance than bodyweight and try the motion first or maybe for a week or so on that before moving to bodyweight. Then again if you are a strong presser/dipper and bodyweight is fairly low maybe that's less of a concern.

Well many gyms have assisted dip and pull up machines that can help with the body weight issue. I have done dips (when I was a light weight guy) but they do not help with my bench either. I tend to use the seated dip machines instead of doing dips because it's easier for fat asses like me :-)

I love doing dips with a 25kg dumbell between me leggies :p
Dips are great for tris.
i do the exact same thing...
dips dont bother my shoulder either... but i also do them after my shoulders are well warm and start off with bodyweight only...

Thanks for the replies.....Like I said before, I used to love doing dips & could do them with ease, but ever since injuring my shoulder I have steered my workout around my injury. No more flat bench, only dumbbells, various exercises to strenghten the shoulder. I feel as if my shoulder is up to par now, but I have always heard dips were bad for the shoulders....I was just trying to get some outside opinions!!

Thanks
