diet log

holy shit, i just realized the benefit of a diet log

i thought i ate properly, but you tend to forget that glass of juice/milk, that little snack of popcorn you had while (insert favorite tv show here) was on, and everything else i LIKE to forget.

well, this has really opened my eyes ... i gotta get more strict about my diet

just thought id share this with you bros. :p

heh, I agree. I keep it in a word document that has all of my needed macro-nutrients, and I periodically add up what I've eaten in the day. Works quite nicely.

I need to start one too =/.

I personally think that Excel is the best tool for keeping a food log. I put all the food that i eat into a "database" in an excel sheet and I creat a drop down menu on a seperate page so that I can just point and click on what i eat and how much i eat each time and everything will be automatically added up for me.

Usually i plan some days and meals ahead using fitday and sometimes other food databases/nutritional data in labels to customise some foods.

I keep a regular notebook where i write everything i eat and a description of the workouts.

I keep a little hardcover journal with me at all times (get some pretty crazy looks when people realize what it is but as the saying goes f*ck 'em). It is more beneficial to my diet than anything else in my daily life. It is such motivation to keep me from cheating when everything I eat is staring me right in the face, permanently. Also it really helps me keep track of those often forgotten calories like condiments and dressings.

I can't stress enough the importance of a diet journal. Not only does it identify "hidden" calories, but you get to easily break down the macronutrients and get a better overall picture of what you are eating.

www.fitday.com is my journal of choice, mainly because I am around computers all day at work and at home. It's easy to pop over to the site and input what I have eaten. It's free, but I would pay for it if I had to. Oops, hope they don't read this! :D

The best part of a diet log is if I don't know how many kcalories something has, I usually don't eat it. :-)
