Developing delts without overhead presses

Fast Twitch Fiber

New member
I had surgery to correct rotator cuff impingement in April. I'm back to training regularly and my comfort on most lifts has greatly improved. However, overhead presses still hurt. I'm thinking about just giving up completely on them. Does anyone have any good ideas for a powerlifter to increase shoulder strength without overhead barbell or dumbell llifts?

Try doing the overhead press with dumbells, where you lower the weights to either side of your head with palms facing your ears. This may take tension off of the rotator. If you've already tried that or it does not work, then maybe the hammer strength overhead press will work.

I really can't think of any good shoulder developers other than overhead pressing - dumbell laterals and upright rows are OK but are kinda secondary to the real deal: presses.

what is your elbow position, do you tuck them forward or flare them to the side? i've found that keeping your hands in closer and tucking your elbows forward takes some strain off the RC if its sensitive.

also, are you doing alot of direct RC work? if you can clear it with your PT you could start doing really light Askem Windmills standing and lying. basically using light weight you do very controlled large arm circles. these are my staple for warming up, going both directions.
