You see the term "shut down" on here quite regularily but was interested in what guys meant by it. For example what you were on,how long, what being shut down meant to you and how long it took to bounce back. Might give some good insight to someone looking to start there first cycle and what they might expect.

shutdown = no cawk.

It's more an expression than an actual condition. Steroids suppress -- which some people call "shut down" but you're still producing testosterone -- just less.

The more you use and longer you stay on, the less your body makes and the harder it is to recover. Suppression gets more severe after 6 weeks an increases exponentially after that.

After about 12 weeks, the body makes zero testosterone. The longer you stay on after that, the longer it'll take to recuperate.

If you reach "shut down" several times, chances are your HPTA will never recover fully.

I have to find a the study but Nelson you might like it

Basically time on longer does = longer shut down as you said

but in the study I need to find in almost all cases it never took more then a year to recover and that was AFTER long term use

YES year is alot and most of the damage is done to the body in that phase if you do not take measures to prevent the sides
which is why PCT and PCT supps are KEY

FWIW, after a few cycles and good PCT, my pituitary just stopped making any LH or FSH. And this was after not taking any AAS for 8 months and being treated during that time from the head of Endo at the Mayo clinic. My point being is that there is always the possibility of never coming back. ANd yes, I was totally up front and honest with him to the point of giving him all of my cycle logs, etc.

True, I was speaking in broad terms and obviously there are many variables -- age being a big factor. It's possible to come back after a year, but I have to wonder if such a subject went back on, how resilient their HPTA would be. And for how long. To say NEVER is something I might question. I'm not trying to be an alarmist. I do believe long term use can be done safely. I'm just pointing out that there are factors involved and can't be ignored or denied.

so is everyone on this board shut down permanently?

I'll bet a lot are. When was the last time someone over 30 who's been cycling for years got a blood test and had natty T over 800? And with hight "FREE" T numbers? (Actually, UNLEASHED can help with that).

There are way too many guys on HRT who are way too young to need it. But...these are the choices we make. I just like to let people know what they're in for. In defense of these choices, it sure is better to experience the benefits. And honestly, there are people in their 40's who have no dick who never touched an AAS. So....just goes to show ya.
