Deadlifts

Hi all,

First let me say thank you for this wonderful site and all the info you make availble. I recently understood the differences between a full squat and what I was doing a quarter squat. My form was good but I was not going down in the hole. Took me one week of strching my hams everyday before having the flexibility required to do a full squat.

Now my question concerns the deadlift. My shins are raw and sometimes bloody after a session. Should I switch to Goodmornings instead that look pretty much the same exercise?

Best regards,
Immel

The bar should be dragging up your body, but maybe you should play around with stance to minimize the bloody mess. Also maybe find a bar with less knurling. After a while your shins should become smooth from the pulling and the bleeding should stop. At least this is how it worked for me.

Good Mornings are a fine substitute for DLs, but DLs are the better exercise imo.

What SouthernLord said.

Having bloody shins means you are doing it right, it means you are behind the bar at the start, pulling up and back, instead of having the bar out in front of you.

Find a bar that is not so coarse and like SouthernLord said eventually your shins will heal and you won't bleed as often.

I would stick with the regular deadlift over the good mornings, as the deadlift will build your entire back, bies, forearms, traps etc. Good Mornings are a different lift all together.

Nothing wrong with leaving a little DNA on the bar. If it worries you Rehyban makes shin sleeves, or you can wear knee high tube socks.

You don't need the skin on your shins anyway.

Thanks for the advice guys, I will suck it up and keep deadlifting. Worst comes to worst I'll wear my soccer shin guards to the gym if I have to.

I think they make deadlifting socks.... I usually just slide my knee sleeves down over my shins.

Same happens to be bro, I get blood on my shorts cuz the bar scrapes the shins then wipes the blood all up my legs lol

i dont get it..

why dont you guys just use sweats?

i use shorts but when the weight hits the floor and im sharing the bar with a pal,

ill even use denim pants
