deadlifts suck!!!

I just use a hook grip. Mixed grip can put unnecessary torque on the spine if you're not careful, as well as hinder symmetrical development. 'course people do it without having huge issues, so I'm sure that it's not the end of the world, but I just prefer my double pronated hook grip.

Brad Gillingham also uses a hook grip. One of the only world class deadlifters that does not use a mixed grip.

Anyways, if the OP is complaining about his hands hurting using a regular grip, there is noo way he has the cajones/ pain tolerance to use a hook grip.

Ah, this is true. I didn't even think of the fact that a regular grip was hurting his hands. Aww well. He can always drop the weight at the end of his workouts and condition himself to hook grips. That's what I did.

i could handle the hook grip well that is if my fingers could fit over my thumbs because my hands arent very big. I can almost always handle pain that wasent the prob. i break stuff all the time and dont feel shit. Just when u split calluses i would not sugest working out any longer can fuck u over for atleast a week probly in the end. Im just gona do deadlifts at the end of my workout tell i get used to them and try the hook grip tomorrow

Don't start your lift with the bar in the middle of your palm. The bar will move down to your fingers as you lift and take skin with it.

Start the lift with the bar in the position it's going to be at while it's moving. I spent a month deadlifting 3x per week in my 60-75% range and had no calluses on my palm. Even my fingers gained only minimal calluses.

I use a double-overhand grip. I'm not yet strong enough to need a hook-grip.

yeah ill try and do that but its still gona slip probly because my forearm strength is so pathetic when i get money im gona get me some coc grippers. Oh yeah does arm wrestling use ur forearms mostly??

alright thought i was right and yeah im pretty sure thats why i split both the ones at the bottom of my index fingers and thats wierd cuz the calluses on my left hand are twice as big as the ones on my right thought it was just me wonder y that is?
My left grip is weaker and I only get skin folds on the left hand, so I guess it's because I can't hold the bar in place as well.

About this thread. I found out that when I used alternate grip I always kept the same posistion, left hand palms out and right hand palms in. That grip has caused my left trap to have over developed compared to my right trap.
I know a lot of people have warned of bicep tears and unevenly loading the spine, but I've never found any problems with mixed grip. What I hadn't considered was uneven trap development. I'll start alternating now. Thanks for the tip.
