Deadlift on Back or Leg day?

glover

New member
Thought I would try deadlifting again. Its been years. Have had compressed disc's twice but it has also been years. No problems now. I just started a push/pull type routine.

Day 1 Chest/Shldrs/Tris
Day 2 Legs/Abs
Day 3 Back/Bis

I only work out once a week.

Would you do Deads on Leg or Back day and why?

Wait, so Day 1 is actually one day in week 1 and Day 2 is one day in week 2?

Also, I do them on back day. They are a back movement, unless you are talking about SLDL. Yes, they hit the hammies as well, but not mainly. I try to space my backand leg w/o out as far away from each other as possible for this reason.

Thanks, I was thinking later that was a stupid question and I should do them on back day. I meant that I work out each body part once a week. So days 1-3 then repeat next week.

I seperate my days between upper and lower. Deadlifts are definetly on lower body day.

A word of advice, if you squat on leg day and then hit deads the next day (or 2 days later) on "back day", your gains will be non existant. Especially if your are working at a high intensity level as determined by your 1RM. Your CNS will be screaming for mercy.

personally, i do not think it matters greatly. I do deadlifts on a back OR a leg day depending on how i am feeling. Also, the amount i can dl on a back versus a leg day doesn't change one bit

If that was the case then the 5X5 program would be worthless but that isn't so.

Just to clarify: in the 5 x 5 program, the squats done on the same day as heavy deadlifts are done with a low intensity. The initial post was referring to heavy deads AND heavy squats on the same day.
