Dead Lift and Squats Same Day??

It really depends on the type of program you are doing and how heavy you are going on each lift. For instance wednesday of the single factor 5x5 program has a trainee squat & deadlift on the same session, but the load is reduced on the squat to account for this.As you increase your poundages you might find doing both too strenuous for the same session, but that will depend on things like conditioning and work capacity also.

I'm on the Ripptoe 3x5 and I do squats and deads on the same day. Only thing is, on the 3x5 you do only one set of deads so it's not so bad.

The reason you're training should dictate how you train. Squats and deads on the same day aren't an automatic no-no, they can be effective and they can also be a disaster. It depends on the trainee, and on volume and intensity (intensity as % of 1RM, NOT some sort of perceived effort). Limit squats and deadlifts in the same week for more than 1 week are tough, much less the same session. If you're only working with 80-85% of 1RM, then both in the same session shouldn't be an issue. Also fo importance is how long you're doing it....more than 3-4 weeks would probably burry anybody who is past beginning stages.

Did it today just for kicks. Actually, gteting a bit bored w/ my workout and couldn't figure out what to do exactly. LoL Ran through 5 singles on back squat, handful of sets of close-grip bench, and finished w/ 3 sets of 8 on deads, adding weight each set. Finished w/ set of pullups to failure (which didn't take long after deads, LoL).

I've found doing my squats and deads on the same day works perfect. It is about all I do though on that day. I do them both heavy too, and that is the only day of the week I do them unless I'm on 5x5. I'm telling you it works great for me. I just do squats before deads. If I do deads before squats I'll be fried.

It also depends on the number of sets you are going as well. For example, after returning to training after my 26 month layoff, I'm squating and deadlifting in the same day twice a week, however after warmups I am only doing two working sets of each. Total sets and frequincy of training will also make a difference. If you are doing a 5X5 and doing squats and deads together in the same day 3 times a week, you are going to overtrain much quicker than if you were doing fewer sets on a different frequincy.
