De La Hoya wins

did you guys see the fight?????
it was an even fight, one round De La Hoya would outbox him for 3 minutes, the next Vargas would get him into the ropes and score more points than needed to win the round. De La Hoya didn't rock him in any other round than the eleventh, it was an awesome fight and I'm glad the Golden boy won, I would have loved to see the scorecards though.

Yes,it was total ebb and flow, the stuff the greatest fights are made of.Vargas wore down by about the seventh round though.Like Oscar stated, when he was rolling those punches on the ropes, that took a tremendous amount of energy out of Vargas. It takes a shitload of zip out of you to miss shots like that. That Patricia Jarmen judge had Vargas AHEAD by 3 points at the time of the stoppage, lol! The other two judges had Oscar up by 2 points.

You must have missed the last 15 seconds of the 10th. Vargas was about to go down then. Do you think De La Hoya was hurt when he would start backpeddling and stop throwing punches in the earlier rounds, or was he just letting Vargas wear himself out. I don't think he was ever in danger of going down.

The greatest thing I heard all night was when Vargas was getting interviewed before the fight and he said "Mexicans aren't suppose to look like this." Everyone in the house strated laughing, even our Puerto Rican and Mexican friends!

Yeah,I got a good chuckle out of that one as well.It was doubley funny when the announcer stated after Oscar dropped him,"Vargas had a six pack in his stomach, but not in his chin".De La Hoya had him out on his feet at the end of the tenth, that's what set him up for that ferocious hook in the eleventh. The beauty of that combo in the tenth is that it started with some wicked body shots transitioned into head shots as his guard dropped to protect his body.Beautiful combo.

It was a great fight. If it came down to a decision it would have been close because two judges scored the fight for De La Hoya and one judge at Vargas winning. I think De La Hoya was doing a great job of boxing and Vargas did not box at all he was just going for all power knock out punches. I would be curious to see how many jabs he threw in the fight. The 11th round was great and I wanted to hear what Vargas had to say after the beating he just took but they wisked him off to the hospital for a fractured eye socket. I have been looking for a post fight interview from Vargas and I cannot seem to find one. I wonder if he is going to be like Tyson and admit his defeat or if he is still going to talk shit.
