That was a good fight.
Oscar whoopped his ass.

De La Hoya gave him the beating that he wholeheartedly deserved.Vargas talked so much shit about Oscar over the past few years, calling him a coward and a pretty boy amongst other things, but when all was said and done, the true gentleman did all the talking where it belonged,in the ring.De La Hoya deserves every bit of fame he has,he is a true champion,in and out of the ring.Vargas is a typical bully, notice how he didn't even stick around in the ring and congratulate Oscar afterwards,he pouted and ran out of the ring with his tail tucked between his legs, like a typical bully who finally gets his bluffed called.

That was an awesome left hook Oscar floored him with, looked like it almost broke his neck with as far as his head bent sideways.

Heall yeah!!! De La Hoya is a great boxer...maybe one of my favorites ever. He is unmatched in my mind when he shows up on shape and ready to box. Vargas is a bitch!!!

had the opportunity to watch as my friend has a black box, and I must say as a non sports loving person, that was an awesome fight. vargas had him barely up until the 6th, then de la hoya picked up his rhythm and started dissecting him until the 11th. de la hoya's left hook, then flurry in the 11th, tadow. too bad vargas had to be a poorsport about his loss and just split.

I think he was pissed because de la hoya got one good punch after the bell rang early in the fight.

Vargas got his ass kicked. I loved it, fuck that little shit-talking crybaby little bitch, he totaly got what was coming to him. Did you see him after the fight as they walked him to the dressing room?, his face looked like a exploded watermelon. Alot of people hate on Delahoya cause he did his singing and shit, but he's multi-talented he's a great business man and a great boxer. A Trinidad rematch would be awesome, and a Trinidad-Mosley would make history.

That's PRECISELY why other fighters(and certain fans) hate on him, particularly the Mexican-american folks. He has been extremely successful in all that he does, and doesn't act like some killer thug, but like a total gentleman, and he's hated for both his sex appeal, but his cross-generational appeal and success as well.Oddly enough Mosley, while not as monetarily successful as Oscar, shares many similarities. He is a true gentleman who loves and appreciates his fans as much as any fighter I have ever seen.He and Oscar are true peoples champions,class-act individuals who deserve every ounce of success they achieve.Bless them both.

After the first I was wondering if De La Hoya could handle Vargas' strength. Vargas coudn't handle De La Hoya's boxing abilities. He slowly picked him apart. Best fight I have seen in years.

Damn!! I missed it. I would've loved to have seen that fight. Good to hear that Oscar put him in his place. Maybe they'll show a tape of it again in a couple of weeks.

It's going to be rebroadcasted on HBO this weekend.

Bump^ Time and Date?

It was announced after the season premier of the Sopranos last night. I can't remember the details, but I think that they said next Saturday. It doesn't appear on their website yet. They might edit their lineup to replay it.

did you guys see the fight?????
it was an even fight, one round De La Hoya would outbox him for 3 minutes, the next Vargas would get him into the ropes and score more points than needed to win the round. De La Hoya didn't rock him in any other round than the eleventh, it was an awesome fight and I'm glad the Golden boy won, I would have loved to see the scorecards though.

Yes,it was total ebb and flow, the stuff the greatest fights are made of.Vargas wore down by about the seventh round though.Like Oscar stated, when he was rolling those punches on the ropes, that took a tremendous amount of energy out of Vargas. It takes a shitload of zip out of you to miss shots like that. That Patricia Jarmen judge had Vargas AHEAD by 3 points at the time of the stoppage, lol! The other two judges had Oscar up by 2 points.

You must have missed the last 15 seconds of the 10th. Vargas was about to go down then. Do you think De La Hoya was hurt when he would start backpeddling and stop throwing punches in the earlier rounds, or was he just letting Vargas wear himself out. I don't think he was ever in danger of going down.

The greatest thing I heard all night was when Vargas was getting interviewed before the fight and he said "Mexicans aren't suppose to look like this." Everyone in the house strated laughing, even our Puerto Rican and Mexican friends!

Yeah,I got a good chuckle out of that one as well.It was doubley funny when the announcer stated after Oscar dropped him,"Vargas had a six pack in his stomach, but not in his chin".De La Hoya had him out on his feet at the end of the tenth, that's what set him up for that ferocious hook in the eleventh. The beauty of that combo in the tenth is that it started with some wicked body shots transitioned into head shots as his guard dropped to protect his body.Beautiful combo.

It was a great fight. If it came down to a decision it would have been close because two judges scored the fight for De La Hoya and one judge at Vargas winning. I think De La Hoya was doing a great job of boxing and Vargas did not box at all he was just going for all power knock out punches. I would be curious to see how many jabs he threw in the fight. The 11th round was great and I wanted to hear what Vargas had to say after the beating he just took but they wisked him off to the hospital for a fractured eye socket. I have been looking for a post fight interview from Vargas and I cannot seem to find one. I wonder if he is going to be like Tyson and admit his defeat or if he is still going to talk shit.
