DB Shoulder press question

At the top of the motion, do you bring the db's together so they "clink"? I see many people doing this. I don't know if there's a point to it, or if it's just a fun noise to make. I overheard someone yesterday telling his buddy NOT to bring them together at the top because it's harder if you keep them apart.

Does it matter? Is one better than the other?

It's basically unnecessary. Serves no useful purpose.

I do it though. Habit, I guess.
