DB bench question-

MsBeverlyHills

for the last month, ive been pressing 35s- so I went up to 40s & my right side was ok-- but my left couldnt lift the fricken dumbell!! Tried the 40s again last wk & my left is still too weak...

so is it totally lame to press 35 on one side & 40 on the other? Besides a strenght imbalance (from 10 yrs playing tennis)- is there anything else that would be a problem doing this?

thanks :)

I would try to keep them as even as possible and work on getting the weaker arm up to speed.... I can't think of anything good that could come out of encouraging an imbalance....

I would be pretty relucant to do that(lift two different weights) just because I don't want any more gaps in symmetry than I already have. What I would do is work out with the most weight that you can do with both sides, but do an extra set or two with the weak side. Since you are doing dumbell press, you will probably have to hold the other dumbell on your other side so you can keep balanced, and you may look a little funny, but I did just that to help fix a similiar problem that I had.

Do NOT use different weighted d-bells in each hand. You may want to try one arm at a time dumbell presses, but use the same weight in each hand, otherwise you'll only further along an inbalance.

thanks BBB-- Im not really sure a strenght imbalance is a big deal- its not like theres a size imbalance.

Do one arm dips using only the weaker arm. That should balance your strength out !!!

Sorry Ms.310/213/818/562........couldn`t help myself. :p :p :p

Thats a good idea....I have also been playing tennis for about 7 years and racquetball for a few but dont have the imbalance in the other arm..

Hmmm.. stop all reps when the left arm starts to lag, by doing this each arm will get the same work and you will keep proper form. Plus the imbalance will be worked out in a few weeks hopefully

hopefully :)

I usually do warmup set of 15 w/25s- so Im gonna bag that & just start at 30, then 35, then 40. Maybe my left side will be less fatigued if I just go right into it. any thoughts?
