Dan John's Tap Tester - CNS measuring tool

here is a nice tool that will test your CNS firing speeds as well state of CNS recovery :)

http://danjohn.org/tester.exe

along with recording your waking pulse every morning, see the highest figure you can get on the Tap tester and record it in your log and note the trends, when the numbers dip, on the Tap tester, along with a rise in waking heartrate, then its time to back off!

A possible tool to tell when PRs are possible and when its not.

what do you do? tap a key with one finger as fast as you can? i'm getting like 39/40 taps in 5 seconds

yes basicly, spacebar

10secs is better. I get 74 now, if it were to say drop to 55-65 a day after my next session then, you know the CNS needs recovery etc :)

CNS never lies on high speed stuff.

watch it dive after a max effort workout

So now with this tool you can tell when the time is right to return to the gym for a productive workout where you will be strong and powerful :)

80, 2 hours after a heavy workout

Your missing the point, you use it at the same time every day, preferable in the morning. If you do it after a workout, it will be slightly elevated due to the CNS being hyped. Then you can record the trends down.

I should have said the day after a heavy workout :)
But I doubt you get over 80 again tommorrow morning, most probbaly below 70 if you caned your CNS hard :)

OK, I'll try it tomorrow morning and keep you updated :)

BTW I am relying on my resting heart rate (taken straight out of bed)

It is 5 to 10 pulses higher when I am really tired/overtrained

81

I guess I'm not overtrained-overexhausted-overCNSfatiguated yet :supercool

Subjectively my CNS felt fried after yesterday's heavy lower body workout.
Based on feel I would not have worked out today, but the TapTester said otherwise - I did an 80 and then an 85, 9 taps higher than before yesterday's workout.
So I went to gym and what do you know I had a good workout and set PRs across the board!
Goes to show going by feel isn't that accurate :)

Well done :)

When you hit the gym, you knew that your CNS had recovered and that you were ready for a good workout
Motiuvation and self confidence = good workout

BTW I just did 84 => good WO expected :supercool

Well as I mentioned above the tapper said my CNS had plenty of juice yesterday and I went to the gym warmed up and did a few light olys and they were flying and snappy, and then after did my regular upperbody workout and got PRs in every exercise I did! Workout was 2.5 hours long too - no problems.

Now today my CNS feels ok for some reason and I tapped out 83 on my first go just then
Waking Heartrate was normal as well.

Hmm two 2-3 hour heavy workout days in a row - and my CNS cruising - who would have thunk

guess my work capacity is greater than I thought :)

110 presses in 10 seconds... good or bad? I just worked out pretty heavy yesteday, body is thrashed - or feels it. Immensely sore.

110 !?
What have you drunk (or injected) ? :D
I did it dozens of time and never managed to go over 85

unless you have a turbo keyboard :)

he is hyped :)
Body maybe sore, but your CNS is in overdrive from the training.

what do you get for 2secs?
Which is more a test of pure speed. I get 20.

It doesn't matter what you measure in any case for 10secs, its a tool to compare your trends over time vs the training components and fatigue generated. Do it the same way everytime, I use my right hand, index finger.

If you use 2 hands it will be faster, but that is cheating :)

I use my right index finger also. I'll do 2 seconds right now.

...
32 seconds.

Are you living in the 4th dimension ? :D
and stop drinking too much coffee :coffee:

67....do I suck?

Sure you do

Unless you're back from a 3 hours heavy workout

I hit 80 right now and I feel tired (I need some days off)

so far I have noticed that when my CNS is fresh and on , I can tap 19 (sometimes 20 - once so far) in 2 secs on Taptester. and about 85 on 10secs

When I am tired - 18 is the most I can get no matter how hard I try and 75-80 on 10secs . So I suspect if my CNS is really fried then I won't be able to crack 17 and 70.

When I get 18 I can still have a good workout and set PRs, but I don't feel fresh like I do when I hit 19-20.

79, feeling really tired after uni exams, uni class and being mugged with a dude who was not even half my size but had a .38 =/

and I still have to workout... crap

edit: just retried, 85

i hear if you get over 90 in 10 seconds you jack off a lot....

i got 85 in 10. cool little program.
couldnt break 20 in 2 seconds.
my keyboard really sucks and has a loosey spacebar, i bet i could hit higher with a tighter one.
