Damn....

Hey all I was planning on starting a cutter in May but just found out I have a partial tear of the rotator cuff in my shoulder which really bummed me out. Not sure if it'll require surgery but have been told to tone it down a little until I decide.

I was told that if the tear isn't too bad, that physical therapy might help out. On the other hand, I'd rather have it fixed so sometime in the future it could be close to 100% again.

One of the guys at the gym just had his worked on and took GH and was up and running after 7 weeks. Would this be a good idea or should I just let it heal with time? Also, while off, should I lower my protein intake a little bit or keep it high? I'm eating pretty clean, so I'm thinking of keeping calories steady but not sure what to do with protein/carbs.

The thought of being out of the gym for more than a month just kills me. Any advice would greatly be appreciated...

When I cant train do to injury ( and I had some real bummers)

Running EVERYDAY outside saves you. Menatally and Physically

Running also primes your body for when you go back into the gym so it will be a very easy transition back

Let the injury heal ( which it will) and then go back

As far as Rotator cuff health, always do Delts after a chest workout no mor eon theri own day, this give the area max time to recoup

For a partial tear I'd try rehab exercises like seated DB L-Fly's or use the shoulder horn.
One of the guys in our power group had the operation and in 6 months he was back to 90% of his all time max bench. My Dad (77 years old) had the operation, and inside 6 months was back golfing and bowling. So the operation can be successfull, but I'd do it as a last resort.

Wow 6 months?? Damn that's a long time. Gonna see what my options are this coming Thursday. If there are other positive options other than surgery, I'd prefer that route. Thanks for the info!

when did you injure it?

surgeons like to operate before scar tissue starts to form, so if it is serious it is better to not wait to get surgery. My doc wanted to operate on my shoulder within two weeks of the injury to avoid scar tissue probs.

If it is not serious, strict physical therapy should do the trick....

My shoulder surery was serious, so I had well over 9 months of physical therapy and it will never be the same

Depends upon how bad the tear is, and whether or not you have to have surgery.

Growth will do nothing, to help or hurt the tear,

Tell your surgeon you need a specific answer, lifting with a bad tear will of course just make it worst now and in the future, Surgery if unnecessary will not help.

Omegas statement is right on, jogging, will at least keep you in shape,

One thing you can bank on, heavy training and lifts that involve your shoulders will pretty much guarantee that you will make it a lot worst.

I'm really not sure when I injured it, but it's been an on and off pain for awhile now and I finally got up to have it checked out.

I was told that I had the option of either PT or surgery, but never asked which one the doctor suggested (will do that). He did tell me when I went around 5 weeks ago to avoid doing straight bar bench and overhead presses which I have not done since.

Gonna see what he suggests and we'll go from there....

you need PT after the surgery .

I torn my teres minor about 6 years ago and tried to work through it ..Id make some progress then fall back then feel good a few weeks then could barley lift at all.Could not do anything over the head or back pulls it just made it worse...You need rest even if it is not so bad..I say go to the gym and focus on leg workouts to still keep you motivated and training but the RC
tear might takes months

I think omegas running is a great idea keep the bllod flow up and get some endorphines pumping

what was it?
super?
infra?
teres major?
teres minor?
subscap?

Yeah if surgery is the only option gonna definately keep goin to the gym...even if it's only cardio. As for what tore, not sure. Only info. that was passed onto me was there is a partial tear. I plan on asking for more details tomorrow and gonna go see an ortho who does sports medicine as well.
