Is it alright to start the movement with a slight swing deeper between the legs?

What I do is to swing the d.b. forward some and then backward and then explode thru. I was wondering if this was Christ-awful form wise or acceptable.
 
It sounds like you are copying the form of highland game throwers to generate momentum - which is o.k. if that is something you are trying to do. But considering that a barbell snatch from the floor, or hanging for that matter, is done from a dead stop - I would suggest eliminating the swinging momentum.
 
you can do them either way, I use kettlebells to do swing throughs and finish with a snatch sometimes. I also do them regular, one handed, and bb one handed.
 
I've been wanting to db snatches but haven't tried yet. I'm really not sure how exactly to do them. Is it more of a clean and press motion, or should I just try to throw it up?

I dont know if this will help or not(trying to think of how it looks when I do them :rolleyes: )
1. I put the db an inch or so off the center to the right,or left of my feet(depending on which hand Im using)
2. Squat down,with an upright torso,and shoulders back,and grab the db.
3.Pull up hard,using alot of leg/hip drive and let momentum take the db up
4.I think the db goes up to around sternum height(not really sure),then I drop under it and catch it
