cytomel and hypothyroidism

I'm kind of new to this site and don't know if this is the right place to post this question... (hope it is if not lemme know i noticed all other posts on this topic were in anabolic steriods, but I am pretty sure that cytomel is not a steriod). Recently my PCP put me on cytomel for hypothyroidism. My lab results show and elevated TSH (still within the normal range, but high end) and low T3 and free T3 (these were below the normal range). After reading all the horror stories of cytomel I am weary of being on it and that it could potentially damage my thyroid. I worry that a PCP is prescribing this an not an endocrinologist. I am on 12.5 mcg (have been for a wk). More tired than I was without it and not losing weight but feel that I am losing tone. I still have no appetite (supposedly this was suppose to help) so its tough to bump up the protein. I have stopped seeing the muscular gains and fat loss that I so desperately want to see (gotta good training program and have been bumping up the weight with no results). Could this be due to the cytomel or could it help out and just take time or am I on too low a dose?
