CRAVING Salt

Why???????? I can't get enough. I literally am minutes away from going to buy a salt lick.

I am getting enough sodium, drinking decent amount of water (~1gal, give or take a little).....

Now, my activity level has gone up a little. Still doing cardio, BUT back to work for the next 10 weeks teaching sports/gymnastics to children. SO I am on my feel, being active, all day 5-6 days a week. COuld this be why?

I'm thinking I need to drink closer to 1.5gal of water.... but what else could be the reason for salt cravings?

Salt craving is a common symptom of hypoadrenalism/hypothyroidism

Very interesting... I'm cutting right now.. and I just love eating my feta 5% fat cheese with a fork..... just 5% fat and almost no carbs but 1000mg of sodium ouch..

I used to get yhis also. I would eat anchovies all of the time until I started taking raw adrenal and the cravings disappeared! I had been told that craving salt was associated with adrenal burnout.
Hope this helps!

*DISCLAIMER* My advice is based strictly on personal opinion.

I think salt cravings are often a symptom of too much salt. I had serious salt cravings a long time ago and I found that once I lowered my salt intake they went away. It took me a long time to be able to do but I did it.

Also, if you drink too much water you'll flush the salt out of your system and your body will desire more.

Whats your salt intake anyways? The RDA is 2400 mg or about 1 teaspoon, so if your getting far more then this then that could be why your craving it so much.

Interesting.

I wouldn't be suprised if my adrenals were burnt. I need to take a break from thermos.

Not sure what my intake is..... but that makes sense. I might have to take a break from salt, or at least tone it down some. I imagine it is the same as junk food...... the more you eat it, the more you crave it - because you are "training" your body to need/want it.

Water intake itn't too high though - only about 1gal on most days.

I'm going to get off Thermos for a couple weeks (at least) and work on reducing my sodium intake. Thanks for ideas. :)

From what I know theres not much data supporting the idea that 'damaging' your adrenals/metabolism is possible. You may grow a dependancy on the product but your body generally returns to normal afterwards if given the time and a healthy diet.

I think its true. I remember when I stopped eating suger products and I craved and craved it so much. It required a lot of will power. After two or three months my cravings for sugar were gone. Then I worked on high fat stuff, and refined stuff with little nutrition value. It's been 5 years now and I have absolutely no desire for ANY junk food. WILL POWER girl!!! Theres no product you can take that is cheaper or can compare (health, safety, effectiveness) in my opinion.

Try doing this slowly - baby steps. You don't want an adverse reaction to happen which usually does when one goes cold-turkey on something after using it for a long time.

'G' - luck girl!!!
