Crak/others AK question

Scotsman

New member
The guy I work with found an AK in a local pawn shop for $189. Not sure what make it is, and I can't remember which ones are really shitty. I will probably try and talk down the price(as I am a cheap ass) during the week. Anyways I just want to know which ones to avoid.

I've been told to avoid chinese AKs.

WSARs are the "cheaper" AKs, thus the reason I went with an SAR-1. Egyptian and I believe Bulgarian are 2 of the absolute best, but you won't get them cheap.

As far as I know, WSARs were all made for single stack magizines, but then they were modified later for double stack. SARs were all made for double stack mags. The WSAR doesn't have "dimples" which help hold the double stack mags in.

SARs come with scope rail already mounted on them.

Get some more info on it. You can get brand new WASR-10s for under $350 online that are set up with scope rail, bayonet lug, and flash suppressor. I spent $400 for my SAR-1 and it was a good deal.

I've got a chinese and I've never had any problems with it, quite honestly, I love it. For $189 you're probably getting a chinese AK. I doubt you are going to find a russian/egyption/bugarian for that price, regarless of the condition.

Ok that's kind of what I thought, now this is at a pawn shop in rural new mexico so it could be really cheap for that reason. I will be checking it out on monday, I figure hell $189 or less if I can talk them down even if it isn't the best I know a great gunsmith that could fix any problems for really cheap as long as there isn't anything intrinsicly wrong with it from the get go.

Fix? You don't "fix" an AK. You clear the block in the chamber, load another round, and keep firing ;)

I meant if there was anything mechanical wrong with it. :)

Well someone beat me to it. Turns out it was a norinco so no harm done. Although I did find a shop that has new ones. I was looking at a synthetic side folding stock model for about $550 think its a SAW.
