Could Chuck take Silva ?

After UFC 52, Chuck Lidell said he wanted the pride belt too. I would love to see UFC & Pride clash. Here's my opinion: Wanderlei Silva is a much better fighter now than he was in his UFC years, & I know he lost (long time ago) to Tito Ortiz, who Chuck beat. But.. recently (last year), Chuck was in Pride Elimination 2004, where he lost to Quinton Rampage Jackson. Jackson went on to lose to Silva in the finals. Silva defeated Rampage again only a few months ago. Just my opinion, I think Silva is the best light heavyweight in the world. I know Chuck always has a punchers chance, but Silva can take a punch, & is better than Chuck in every other area. I also think Fedor is the best in the world in heavyweights, & Crocop is awesome too. Would be cool to see some UFC vs. Pride fights.

I still think Randy is a better fighter than Chuck. Dude got poked in the eye, of course he was dead meat after that. I know it's part of the sport, but come on ...

its a hard fight to call but i give the edge to silva, i think silva can knock out randy easier than chuck

Wanderlei has one of the best stand up games out of any of the light heavy weights. He brings an aggressive style that is much unlike randy's (who i still think is a better fighter than chuck) defensive/stregic approach. Way too explosive and way too skilled. Chuck is stepping out of his place on this one.

Even Randy himself said that the poke had nothing to do with it and he had adequate time to recover. Getting poked in the eye is not unusual in training and competing and as long as you are allowed to recover it's no big deal. For some reason Randy didn't fight his fight. When he closed the gap he chose to trade punches rather than clinch. Notice even when he had Chuck against the cage he didn't clinch but tried to hit him which gave Chuck the space to escape. This allowed Chuck to get back out to the middle of the cage to his advantage. Randy is an Olympic Greco Roman wrestler where you take guys down without attacking the legs. In a clinch he will take you down. He gave an interview on MMAweekly radio where he explained why he didn't clinch. I very much would like to have heard the reason. But that old war horse will be back. You can count on it.

I think Wanderlie is currently the best out there in his weight class. Pride overall has better fighters so the competition is steeper and Wanderlie is the most dominate fighter in Pride. Of course, Pride pays way better than the UFC and is much more popular in Japan whereas in the US it's still a subculture. Even when guys like Ricco Rodriguez walks the streets in Japan he's mobbed like a rock star. Here, no one notices. But I think that will change with time. People are getting tired of boxing and know that the WWF is just a show. MMA is the future.

Good posts mt ! I agree that Randy did not execute well in that fight. Why go inside with Liddell with those jabs; you know Liddell always has a chance of catching you with a hook. I remember in their previous fight, Randy (amazingly) won much of the stand-up game with Chuck, I think he just took it too far this time... Chuck was ready.

I hope you are right about MMA. Boxing sucks ass. I can't rememeber the last time I was excited about a heavyweight bout... maybe in the 80's.

I think in the next 10 years it will gain more acceptance and following. I mean, the sport did not hit the US until 1992, so in 13 years it has come a long way, I only see it getting better.

I'd rather see Coture and Slva
but I think Chuck CAN take Silva sure

I can't believe this thread has been up for days before I noticed it. Didn't even have time to read the other posts. Must say, without question, Silva will beat Chuck like a P.O.W.(hope I didn't offend any vets).
I like Chuck, but if he thinks he can take the Pride belt, he's smoking HUGE crack rocks!! He already went for it and you see what happened!!!
