It's sad phenomena; abuse/co-dependance.

The one that is being abused is totally dependant on his/her abuser as he/she controls EVERY aspect of that person's life so when they see their controller (who has brainwashed them into thinking that they couldn't possibly exist without them) is being "taken away" they freak. Not only that, but they are terrified of the repercussions of having their abuser "outed". Believe it or not but this type of relationship spans all educational/religious and socio-economic backgrounds. These people are politicians, doctors, lawyers, school teachers, many are seen by the public at large to be quite charming and "normal" in their demeanor.

I know you aren't making fun of these people (men who are physically abused rarely ever report it) but you have no idea how shamefull it is when the abuse gets so bad that you are forced to call the police.

I bear the burden of being called trash on EF near 6 years later because I kicked my abusive ex to the curb THE FIRST AND LAST time he beat me. And because of his continued sickness my children have been raised around police.

It is only NOW finally, that I refuse to accept shame for HIS behavior.
