It is easy to make a license plate read differently unless inspected very closely.

Sales of magnetic plates, in the black market, will go up.

This is how you stop car theft:

Park desireable cars and have a sniper in the tree focused on it. Suspect gets into car and sniper takes the fucker out. Quality of gene pool increases while crime rate and insurance rates decrease.

Not a bad idea there.
