Confusion about the 5x5... looking to clarify.

Ok, I'm jumping on the bandwagon here to the 5x5 crew, and I've been reading through madcow's posts and whatnot. I'm still a bit fuzzy on what's going on, but I think I've got the general idea. However, I've seen a couple of things that are confusing me, and yet a few things that I haven't managed to find the answers to yet.

About reps: Should I always be bumping them up each set (for example, set 1: 225lbs, set 2: 245, set 3: 265, etc...)? Or should there be days where I keep all the sets the same (sets 1-5 all 225lbs)? I did not grasp the latter out of what was written in the geocities link by madcow.

Thanks!!

It depends on whether you're doing the linear or periodized version. The former has all ramped sets, while the latter has some ramped and some sets-across (all same weight).

Not to be an ass, but you might want to read through the program descriptions on the geocities site again. madcow explains it pretty clearly and gives examples of what he means by the notation (e.g. the difference between 5x5 and 1x5).

I also have an excel spreadsheet on each program page that one can just plug numbers into and out spits the program. It's there basically for this reason rather than an 'insta-program'.

I downloaded the spreadsheet, and that's what I was looking at, but then I started seeing it where people were doing the same weight and got a bit confused.

that might explain it, I haven't read through the periodized version yet, I was going to start with the intermediate version first. *phew*. thanks, I was really starting to lose my mind here trying to figure out where out why I'm such a RETARD.

oh and can someone hit me up with a GOOD power clean vid? I was going to do the power cleans in the place of the rows, but I want to see a vid of GOOD form of them first. any links?
