Computer nerds...errr..peeps....AMD vs. Intel???

hp or toshiba laptops are the shizznet. Remember GET AT LEAST 2 GIGS OF MEMORY MINIMUM UNLESS U WANT IT ALWAYS RUNNING SLOWWWWWW

Next person I see with a new laptop with 1 gig, I'm gonna slap them and eat their food.

There's alos macbooks - which is all the hip rage nowadays. So much of the 'recession'.

Yeah this one has 3 gigs......I really would like to find an XP laptop though...I've heard nothing but nightmares about Vista.

Been a long time since I have been up on who the better company is.

Been wanting to get a new laptop and cant decide between the ones with AMD processors or Intel processors.

I remember that AMD used to provide more bang for the buck with desktop computers but this was before Dual core and hyper threading technology.

All I remember is that while AMD was good...they had a tendency to run hot and that wasnt good in a laptop...but again that was pre Dual core and hyper threading technology.

Just need the laptop for fairly basic functions..internet,word documents,dvd/cd burning..maybe some video transcoding...but NO GAMING...I use my xbox360 for all my gaming needs.

Was thinking about this one....
Toshiba - Satellite Laptop with AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology TL-60 - L305D-S5895

Any suggestions??

Actually it was the Intel 64bit processor that ran hot. They had to completely change their design to match AMD because AMD's was running cooler, faster and burned less electricity.

Since the change, I think they are pretty much inline. Most test I see show intel slightly ahead but AMD owns ATI wich can have a better chipset combo than Intel /Nividia for intense graphics.

Kind of general statements... Intel's pentium 4 chips ran way too hot. AMD's generally run cooler, except maybe the thunderbirds and the chips before it. Both consume low power now - though they state numbers, the way they rate power consumption is different.

AMD chips address 64 bit operations better than intel's do - though you wont find this information stated too often. Intel's have fudged this fact.

With a laptop, no gaming, either AMD or intel will work equally well.
