Computer GURUS a little help

Ok heres the problem, I'm trying to go to windows update, and get some updates, go figure.
and its telling me I have to be running an windows operating system, which i am, I'm running windows XP.

Also i'mable to download some critical update patches, but when i try to install them it says you must have internet explorer installed....which i do....

damn it mickey shaft cant you make something that works?
linux isnt even this damn complicated....


I dont want to have to uninstall/reinstall, cause i'm lazy is there any other way around this?
anyhelp would be appreciated...

sucks to be me still not working, now i can get to windows update, but i still apparantly dont have internet explorer installed, when i try to install the new cumulative patch.
