computer geekiness question

in my outlook email program for example, if i click on FILE at the top, every menu option there has one letter underlined so instead of clicking on it with the mouse, you can type the particular letter to get to the menu option. for example,
O pen - you would use Shift O to get the capital O
or
Save A s - you would use Shift A to get the capital A

Its for peeps who are power users and prefer using keyboard shortcuts instead of clicking with the mouse/cursor

you know the menu at the top of every program? one letter is underlined.
and in "tools" for example, one letter of every menu option is underlined.

why?

I want to a keyboard shortcut to run one of those in my email program... how do i do that? in other words, in the Tool menu is an option to run my junk mail filter. The 'L' is underlined (lower case). how do i do that with a keyboard shortcut?
if its a lowercase l, then just press the l on your keyboard

AH! got it. i can just click alt-T, then l and it runs the filter.
yes, i could also just hit the drop down menu and find it, but it's easier to use the keyboard shortcut.
