Computer Experts I need your assistance...

I got XBox Connect, its a program where you can connect your pc to your xbox and play games like Halo online. When I first got my cable modem a couple weeks ago the game played fine, no lag or anything.

Now its a different story. I think my brother got a virus on the computer or something. On the xbconnect program it says if internet traffic is going through and game traffic. Basically if there is anything else other then the xbox moving info through your modem. I noticed before the internet light never was on but lately it has been and its been really lagging and is unplayable. I can't find what program is causing it so I'm thinking I might have a trojan or something just sending info through my computer. Any ideas?

do you have any kind of a opennap program (morpheus, kazaa, etc.) installed?

they can hide in your tray and eat bandwidth like a mother...

well if you want to check for viruses check out www.grisoft.com , which makes a great free virus protection software for personal use called AVG.

Also try pressing ctrl-alt-del all at the same time and under win9x a "Close Program" box comes up, under win2k and winXP the box is different but should have a "close program" button as well, see what all is running, things "explorer" and "systray" have to be running but there might be a bunch of unneccesary programs running in the background.

Check system tray(lower right hand corner) for open programs, like said before, Kazaa, Morpheus, etc, shut as many programs down as possible.

Is the connection only get slow when you are using the XBox program or is it slow all the time when using the internet?

its somewhat slow when i use the internet sometimes. i've closed all other programs before using xbconnect and when i go press ctrl + alt + del it says nothing else is running. in the system process it looks like a different story though

is everything slow or just when you try to play xbox online?

you should really find out if you have a trojan, because people like to setup things like subseven servers on machines with cable+ so they use your bandwidth to do a bunch of shit.
