I am 20 years old and I have not played football since high school in '99. I have done seveal cycles in the past 2 years and I have gotten much stronger, bigger and faster than I was back in high school. I have one more year at a junior college and then I am going to transfer to a four-year school. I am thinking about walking on to wherever I go and giving it another shot. How do you guys feel about older guys trying out for the team?? Do you feel they have a disadvantage because of age?? Give me some advice guys. Thanks alot

The Big Red had ass loads of walk ons. Of all ages. We had guys on there who were like 28 years old!!!

There are advantages and disadvantages, but I don't think you will notice any differences between 18 and 20 (remember--every other 20 year old on the team is also working out), except that you are stronger than most in your incoming class of 18 year old freshman. So, you think you are in good shape now? Wait til they get a hold of you!!!

And in a year, everyone will be bugging you to buy them beer.

no man, you're prime!!!

I was 17 my first year of CIAU ball here in Canada. I was beaten out of my tackle position by a 21 year old guy who played CEGEP ball in Quebec. His body was just more mature than mine, and he had more experience. The gear will help, but I'd clean up before camp as a positive juice test can wreck your life (my buddy hit the front page of many newspapers for this). Also, where you've been juiced for a while, hit the plyometrics as they will help strengthen your connective tissues which prevent you from ending up in the hospital for broken this or torn that like I did every fucking year because all I did was juice and lift! It's never too late, just get your body in shape and remember that it's not always the strongest guy who wins, but the fastest guy that's the strongest that doesn't get hurt! :D

20 yrs old, do you think that's old? Most players coming to 4yr schools from the jc ranks are that age....I played at a jc on the west coast and most of my roommates were older then me.....If your 25, different story, but 20.....your in the mix...Good luck!

College ball

Hey bro, I walked on at 21 and did fine. You will have the adavange if you keep your head about you. Alot of the younger guys are worried about parting and girls. This give you a much better chance if you can stay focused. DO ALOT OF SPRINT'S, and try to get ahold of summer training program for the school you want to go to. Just call tell them your thinking of walking on and wondered if you could get there summer program. Alot different lifting for sports and lifting for bodybuilding. If you got any other questions just ask. Good luck....
