i think you can handle it.

It starts off as a fabulous position...

until the realities of tight deadlines, 14 hour days and office politics and wrangling to be first up the ladder start to sink in.

Nothing like the stress of 70 programmers all hating their job, all the while trying to impress the bosses above so they can be promoted to the rank and file position of "manager". This way they can sit 8 hours a day playing video games and get off telling programmers what to do -- all the while making double their salary.

No thanks.

programming is for homos

and nerds

i wasted 2 years of my life before realizing how big a hell that sort of life would be

I'm not a programmer, but you've just described my last job to a T.

LOL, I haven't programmed professionally since my masters thesis.

The handle stands for something else :)

Programming was interesting and fun, back when it was on the same level as being an inventor and creative and paving new exciting ways of doing things. Back in the DOS and BBS days. The swashbuckling, wild frontier days of the new computer revolution of the 80s.

Now it's all controlled by Microsoft, which basically HANDS you the X, Y, Z format of how to write a program. It's been downgraded to fucking monkey work of writing an application.

It's akin to being a car mechanic where you entire job is taking out an engine, plugging it back in, and hoping to god the engine you got works. If not, tough. Deal with it. Your entier job is basically painting the car and window dressing it. And if you dare try to disect the engine -- it's been so tightly put together by microsoft with no documentation, that's it's next to impossible to do anything constructive with it.
