HMMM........that is interesting. They were forced to add depresion as a side effect in the PDR in 1997 because of suicides on accutane.

Its amazing how easily the media manipulates people's opinions. How many people will probably see those news stories and believe that Accutane made this kid blow a fuse.

I call that kid slamming his plane into a buillding "Darwin At Work".
 
I don't know... what is the percentage of the population that is depressed at any given moment? Unless the percentage of accutane users who experience depression is significantly larger than that of the general population, i don't see much basis for tearing into accutane.

I agree fully. Look at the headline for christ's sake... then read the article; it says he may not have even taken Accutane, he just had a script written for it!

I'm more concerned about people just using this stuff w/o the assistance of a physician. This stuff is liver toxic and may or may not be a factor in psychosis... like I said before, be careful. There's other ways to get rid of acne.
 
Come on guys it aint all that bad - Ive taken everything for acne, tetracycline, minocyclin and there aint nothin like accutane! - this stuff is the shit!

Accutane did make me depressed and a little "crazy" but I don't ever remember it making me supportive of Osama Bin Laden. Maybe they should list that amongst the side effects...what a bunch of assholes, huh?
 
whatever. You take any drug there are gonna be benifits as well as consequences. I took accutaine when I was in 9th grade and it caused premature growth plate closure and a loss of about 4" off my projected height (had this verified by x-ray). You don't see me flying airplanes into buildings because of this. In fact if given the choice again I'd still have taken it, as severe acne all over your face and upper body is not cool at all. BTW I cope with being a short runt by getting big so I can be one of those "short-big stupid guys" that girls laugh at in clubs.

I guess his dad who is still wanted on some heroin charges and the fact that his dad was in and out of the home, convicted of a few felonies, and was a heroin adict. had nothing to do with it. Accutane had less to do with this than a fucke up home.
 
Like Howard Stern said this morning: The kind thought he was a loser because of his pimples. He took the Accutane and his pimples went away. He saw that he was still a loser so he was pissed.
 
i have taken accutane and have had no problem and been on it fror 6 months. i have never felt depressed if anything i am happier. The sides effects that u will get is usually just dry skin and chapped lips.

oh yeah, accutane doesn't make u more aggressive either or give u mood swings......if u get those problems its just not the accutane its just your head:bawling:

I've been on it at least 4 different times in my life teenage and in my twenties and never had problems. I think the reports are full of shit and the media just needs a story to print. Maybe accutane will soon be listed by the DEA as a drug with suicidal and addictive properties to keep it out of the hands of those that "need" it. If the kid hadn't taken it and he looked like swiss cheese later in life, he'd probably still have wanted to off himself. Who's to say the kid wasn't also on ritalin (sp) or some other shit that parents give their kids to babysit them now days.

Correction - according to every newspaper and radio report I've come across GHB is "THE" date rape drug. Who woulda thunk it. Don't any of these people realize that rohypnol is "THE" date rape drug?

In all seriousness, when a person (even a really f'd up person) like Sebastian Janikowski gets caught with some GHB and suddenly is having to face "date rapist" accusations, something is really wrong. Doesn't anyone in the media have a clue?

Then again, most "insiders" lie to reporters, obviously. That is the only way I can explain how every newspaper report about the Canadian female sprinter getting caught with winny in her system - "the Ben Johnson drug" - went on and on about how this drug was really "old hat" and that most athletes were using "much higher tech drugs now" and that stanozolol was even a rather crude drug "in Ben's day." Coulda fooled me! I could swear many pro athletes are just shooting test and popping dbols, BWDIK?
 
gtaman, the funniest part of media spin is that Ben Johnson did not like winstrol (it made him too stiff) and early in his drug use stuck with low dose d-bol, then later graduated to oral turinabol or furozabol with low dose test. Of course because of all the media spin since '88 sprinters have been loading up on winstrol and pulling hamstrings (happened to me and others I know).

really is amazing how the media can create such a widespread misconception.

I respect your mod status, but HOW DARE YOU TAKE SOUPLANTATION'S NAME IN VEIN WITHOUT EVEN SPELLING IT CORRECTLY???

It got me through my freshman year of college and if it hadn't been for the plantation outside the Beverly Center (pizza bread RULES!) I'd never become a fatass and decided to start working out and would have prolly never discovered this board.

Don't EVER speak ill of the plantation again, or else!!!

lol I actually ate their many times myself during my university stay. I just didnt like the way the workers sneazed and coughed on their plastic wrapped hands (surgi gloves) then handled the food with the same gloves tossing salads by hand (better than by mouth I guess ;) ) yech. Soup and Salad Exchange is the same exact thing as your coveted Snot Picktation, just a different name and a little cheaper.

If I were betting on it, I'd say the kid was fucked up and came from a fucked up family, but it's easier to blame accutane. Besides, fucked up kids from fucked up families are a dime-a-dozen these days. But kids that fly planes into buildings because of accutane, now there's something for parents with kids on accutane to really become worried about versus the way they are raising their kids.

u cant be bias against the fact that hormone altering drugs may have a depressing effect on a person. but thats no reason to punish a substance for the actions of one on them. for example we all know that when intoxicated with alocohol one becomes a worst driving sometimes even crashing and killing people. now would u ban alcohol because a person choose to drive intoxicated? No you wouldnt. same thing when society tries to shun down steroids because of the aggression and mood alterting they cause in people and yes steroids do that its not just a myth they effect some people harder then others but its still present. its no excuse, sure maybe the accutane pushed the envolope a little further and thats why he killed himself, but it should be the doctors responsiblity to perscribe these mood altering drugs responsibly. for the sake of the person they are giving it too.

Thats just my opinion anyways.
 
you say there are other ways to get rid of acne... but i don't agree.. for some accutane is all that will work. in my case accutane is all that got rid of my acne. and sorry... accutane DID NOT make that boy fly the plane into the building. He was fucked in the head in the first place.
 
I can just see the shit now:

there is evidence that accutane leads to thinning or loss of hair in 10% of people who take it....there are many side effects I view as tradeoffs (chapped lips, dry skin, etc) but hair loss is something i don't fuck around with.......i do need to get rid of zits, but i think i'll stick to minocyclin
 
Hey, It's interesting that you mentioned hairloss. I have taken it like 4 or 5 times and I don't recall having hairloss ... at least any that I noticed. Does that mean I'm not that prone to MPB? I'm about to take winny and I'm wondering if it's gonna mess with my hair but maybe I'm worrying too much. :)

i've felt pretty depressed and lots of mood swing due to accutane but thats no reason for it to be taken of the market, a shitload of my friends took it and most of them never had depression. Its a great drug for people who have cystic acne, like i had. It worked great and i don't regret one moment of being depressed on the stuff, i would be just as depressed having big ass cysts on my face.
 
Thats the problem with our country. Everyone has rights but no responsibilities. This dumb ass, his family, and the press have nobody to blame but him. He is the moron that wanted to end his life. Although tragic, its called population control. Blame him, not some object, a gun, a med, etc. Wake up America.
 
Not to be funny. This is a true story. just to make it short my sister locked herself out of the house. She was in the garage. Well, the crazy mo fo took an axe that was in the garage and chopped down the door!!! She was on accutane. It does have effect your personality...whether you like it or not.
