Circuit training

From BodyBuilding.com -
The general idea of circuit training remains the same with free weights. The idea is to increase aerobic activity while still stimulating the muscles. This means that circuit training is not used for bulking up. Circuit training will help to maintain some strength and assist in weight loss.

Circuit training will not help you to gain 10 lbs of lean mass. Circuit training is a great substitute for those that really do not like to do aerobic exercises for fat loss. While it can never completely replace aerobic exercise, circuit training can have some of the same benefits.

The type of circuit used in the studies involved weight training exercises, typically 10-12 weights exercises for both the upper and lower body. Subjects performed 15 reps or 30 seconds worth of each exercise in rotation. 15-30 seconds rest between exercises was taken and three circuits were performed. This kind of workout takes around 30 minutes to complete.

So it goes to say that, yes, circuit can help in fat loss. If you don't want to put on much muscle, but get 'toned up' then this would be a good idea for you. Unless you get your diet in shape, then the circuit training will not be the best thing for you. The general consensus for athletes is that 70% of it is your diet. If you eat junk food all day, the circuit training will help a bit, but you won't get the results that you'd really like to achieve.
I think I'd work on getting my diet in shape and start a weight training (circuit, if you want) regimen and see how you do. I prefer a regular weight training routine, instead of circuit, because with weights you can skulpt your body to how you want it to look. Circuit training will help you get a bit leaner and 'tone up'. Weight training with the proper diet will not only help you 'tone up', but actually allow you to change the way you look - bigger shoulders, bigger chest, etc.
Hope this helps.
