Chronic Tendonitis

Hey guys. I know this post belongs elsewhere, but I tried and got no help. I had chronic tendonitis in my left patella all through high school. It went away about a year after I graduated. I am now playing semi-pro football and It has come back with a vengance. It is 50 times worse than in hs and now I have it in my right knee too. I am popping advil like jolly ranchers and ice them every night but I still cant bend my knees without my patellas feeling like they are about to snap. Doc is no help either. He just said ice them. Well no shit doc. 8 years of med school and that the best advice you can give. Anyways. karma for help.Im going to die. Thanks

Ask if he ever heard of Synvisc?!? Its synthetic joint synovial fluid and is meant to be injected into the knees. I had two rounds of it and my knees no longer clicked after 2 months!

I have heard of some doctors using food grade hydrogen peroxide to treat a varity of aliments including Arthritis. I have read some articles on it but don't know much about it. Don't know if it would work for tendonitis or not but you might want to research it. Here is a link http://www.garynull.com/Documents/Arthritis/Hydrogen_Peroxide_Therapy.htm. I have no idea if this can be helpful or not but makes for an intersting read. Tough one Good Luck! Clomids idea sounds good.

thanks for the advice guys but unfortunatly both of the above suggestions are for joint problems. Tendonitis is simply an inflamed tendon. Sounds pathetic but it can sometimes be crippleing. Ask some big benchers about it. Its pretty comon in the elobows for them.
georgie: I feel for u man. I used to give my friends with shoulder probs shit until I recently tore my rotator cuff. I never realized how horrible shoulder problems can be until now.

I've had it in my forearms for almost 5 months now. Had to breakdown workout schedule to 2 days a week to let them rest. Doc's don't know shit. Physical Therapist says I need a cortisone shot. Ortho says I don't. PT says gotta streatch 'em. Ortho gives me a brace to have them locked in the opposite direction. Don't know what the fuck to think anymore.

I'll never do another hammer curl!

I had that and I know it sounds too simple to be true but it worked for me and I though it was corny as hell. Here goes, have you seen those little bands that go around the knee right under the patella ? They put a slight compression/traction kind of thing on that tendon and it cured my problem. I wore it all the time while running competitively and training upwards of 90 miles a week. Took a while to be pain free but they worked. Maybe this will help certainly worth a try.

Find a doctor that does PROLOTHERAPY, best thing you could do for yourself. Worked for me in 5 weeks and haven't had a problem since. I suggest dooing some reading on it.

Ive tried these as well and they do work however. Playing linebacker I end up on my knees every other play and needless to say they get demolished and dont stay on. Ive tried taping it in place also but they just wont stay.
I also asked the doc about cortizone and he said that injecting it directly into a tendon will deteriorate its strength and pliability. Not an option for me. Im not going to risk a tear to my patella . Ive seen somone go through that.
Hey tokebloke. How much is the prolotherapy and what does it involve?

WATERBOY44- Prlotherapy involves anywhere from 6-12 shots injected into the ACL for patella strengthing/tightening. I just had it done on my neck and the doctor was really experienced. He said a lot of the old timers use a different type of injection solution however they all contain at least a anestetic like lidocain or prolocain and dextrose as well as sodium moruate (if your lucky because thats the good stuff and is pricey.) Some doctors actually make you wait 3 months between injections while mine were staggered between EOWeek and weekly. I can tell you that the ligaments get sore for a couple of days but like your muscles they rebuild/tighten and become stronger.

As far as I know, you can only have 3 cortisone injections in the same joint/tendon in one lifetime because it actually weakens the tendon AS WELL as increasing likelihood you will injure it because you think it is healthy.

Hope this helps. Feel free to email me with any questions or to find a Doctor practicing prolotherapy in your area.

No problem bro! You will be looking for an Osteopathic Doctor (DO) who practices prolotherapy (MD's generally dont). DONT EVEN BOTHER ASKING YOUR OSTEOPATH BECAUSE THEY HATE PROLOTHERAPISTS (long story).

Good luck!
