choose to sign for package or not?

my international supplier gives the option for regular airmail (no signature)
and registered airmail (with signature), which would be the safer option to avoid any legal issues? I was thinking no signature and then when the package arrives to write return to sender on it and set it by the door for a week or so...opinions?
