Chins and an overtraining ?

I always do the chins first. Today is back day so at lunch I'm gonna try just doing 2-3 reps with a 30lb dumbell. Weighted chins are the only thing that I haven't tried so I may as well give it a shot.
 
Maybe look at the body weight thing. Im actually steady getting worse at chins simply because I'm getting stronger and heavier on 5x5.
 
You can definitely increase your pullup strength with other back excersizes. Heavy rows, lat pulls, stuff like that. Personally I think training each muscle group, once a week is good to prevent overtraining. I recognize that everyone is different, some people can get away with doing something twice the same week. I think 3 times a weeks is pushing it though.
