I have not been impressed with the leaked songs on the net. Rose is a has-been.

BTW I heard Sebastian Bach is going to be the new singer for Velvet Revolver.

I grew up with GNR. I like the music, I never liked the band. Or I should say I never liked Axle.

Personally i'm waiting for AC/DC's new release to see if they actually do something or pump out more trash and ride on their reputation. I also want to get Airborns new cd which is like a young version of AC/DC. Of course i've only heard one song off it.

They were my favorite band back when they came out and Axle Rose ruined the band being an idiot!! I doubt this record will be as good as the old stuff!

also, what's up with Buckethead? could we come up with a stupider goddamn slogan than putting an empty bucket of KFC on your head?

and i love it when peopel say "Buckethead blows Slash out of the water." mmm hmmm......Slash is already a god; Buckethead isn't even a has-been. (i admit, buckethead is a good guitar PLAYER, but to be a great guitarist takes more than just technical guitar skill. Slash has great charisma and is a great performer. also, to be great in a rock band like Guns and Roses, you have to look "cool". buckethead exhibits none of those qualities, IMO.)

Slash is the man!! He has nothing to prove!

word.

Buckethead is good, but his style is wacky electronic out there spazzy style music. He writes songs that entertains a very select few. ie: not marketable.

When he writes a sweet child o mine, or a november rain or a welcome to the jungle -- he can fill Slash's shoes.

man, im glad you guys agree with me....i totally expected to catch some heat for that comment.

my friends always defend buckethead, saying he's better than slash, etc. i just laugh and call them amateurs...hahahaha

i've played guitar for 20+ years, and I can tell you that Slash is far more talented. I dont care about technical guitar playing ability. Slash is a badass, Buckethead is a clown.

That's fucking cool. Baz is an awesome singer. His range is great and he can pull the shit off live, which most singers can't do.

The dude from STP was a shit singer.

You think Scott W is a shit singer???? you're crazy!! He's awesome....one of the best imo......

Guns N roses were awesome when they were all together. But now its just Axel and some other guys. Axel is just trying to make some extra $$ with the name of the band.

The thing that sucks now is that there arent' too many good new bands out anymore. Its the old fuckers trying to make a comeback. ITs cool and all but I would like to see a new band with some new material

I'm a massive buckethead fan. Truth be told, most of his stuff doesn't involve shredding whatsoever. Probably half his catalog is subdued and contemplative. Not taking anything away from Slash, mind you. Slash is ok for what he does. Very limited player though. Much of VR's material sounds like re-hashed GnR. Buckethead, on the other hand, shows great versatility, writes incredible melodies, as well as shreds.

ya, slash may be a "limited" player, but he is an absolute master at what he does. no one can play a Les Paul like Slash can. he has absolutely mastered the art of sustain on that guitar.

man, no offense to you,,but he needs to just take the goddamn "bucket" off his head...lol....shit looks stupid. then maybe I (and others) will take him more seriously.

it is honestly the dumbest thing i have ever seen.

also, shredding means nothing in terms of guitar playing...any 7 year old can turn up the distortion and play a shitload of powerchords. shit, i can shred...great guitar players don't bother to "shred."

ask jimmy page and slash.

Interesting, but I saw little shredding in those clips. Boasting of one's lack of ability is absurd.

..and Page is a much more versatile and creative player than Slash.

Sort of like wearing a top hat on stage?

Appearance has ZERO to do with the quality of one's music. Technical ability merely enables one to more effectively translate their vision into musical reality.

I think this album will punctuate what's really going on in Axl's head.

appearance has everything to do with being a performer. you can never be considered great if you look stupid on stage, IMO Slash wore a tophat to make himself look taller. he's a really short little guy. hard to compare a tophat with a KFC bucket, but hey, it's whatever.

i never boasted about my lack of ability; i never claimed to be a great guitar player. i think i was trying to make the point that any prepubescent teenager can "shred."

actually, now that i re-read your post,,i misread...i thought you tried to assert that amongst other things, buckethead can "shred." my bad...i think i misread.

and i agree, page was much more versatile,,but i think my point is that he was a master on his guitar. (i believe it was a les paul)

and i believe slash is too, and i know he used a les paul (actually, he used a Les Paul copy to record. he only performed with a real Les Paul.)

here's a question i have for you, now that we're on the subject of guitar players: I have always been pretty unimpressed with Clapton. He just seems very uncreative and very pentatonic. strict blues scales. seemed to never venture out of those particular scales. what are your thoughts about that? when people say "clapton is god," i laugh a little.

thank God i'm not the only fucking person on the planet that doesn't get it!! :)

AXL MUST DIE. I remember my Uncle had a shirt that said that back in like 91. I thought it was the coolest shit ever. I was a fan back in the day and now I could give a shit less. I know I won't be paying to hear it when it comes out.

I was 18 yrs old in the Army and almost got the Appetite for Destruction album cover tattooed on me!! An older wiser guy told me to never get a band because they may break up or you'll not like them later or just don't!! I am glad I didn't!

that's fucking awesome. i'd give you k, but it says i've given you too much already...haha

Hey man, sorry it took me so long to reply. Mother's day stuff.

I like Slash as a player. I just think he's overrated. imho.....and that's all it is, just my opinion.

Clapton was ahead of his time. You have to look at the era in which he received his name. He was actually one of the most technical players around, especially when he was with Cream in the late 60's. Then Hendrix came along.
I'd go more along the lines of this..."Clapton was God"....now we have "God 2.0".

While I'll argue the virtues of any guitar player I admire, when it comes to music there really is no such thing as 'better', just different. I'm not the most amazing player on Earth myself.

Most people don't realize Izzy was the main song writing force behind GNR. Slash got all of the fame because of his solos and hat but Izzy knows his shit.

Yes, Buckethead does shred as well.

Actually, the guitar mags back in the late 80's did give Izzy his due. We used to play a bunch of tunes off Appetite in my old band and the other guitar player and I switched back and forth between Izzy and Slash's parts.

I know about Izzy and I alway liked him. My friend that went to the Rocklahoma outdoor event said Izzy was there walking around talking to everyone being so cool!

hey, good call with Cream. he did play some pretty mean guitar in that song "Tales of Brave Ulysses" and "White Room."

Aside from Cream: if you listen to his Yardbirds stuff it kinda sounds a little uninspired. (but that was kind of the Yardbirds style, if you think about it...that was kind of a strange-sounding band). also, some of his solo stuff is very boring to me...
JMHO.

agreed! Izzy was a great rhythm guitar player and a great songwriter.

Unless you're talking about Arnold Schoenberg.

man, i dont know if i agree. i think some guitar players are "better." for instance, it's hard to argue that Jimmy Page isn't "better" than say some pud like Glen Fry from the Eagles or that clown from Steely Dan.

steely dan supposedly had to use mostly sessions guitarists because the guitar player was so bad. the guitar player couldnt do that riff in "Reeling in the Years" supposedly. Walter Becker is his name i think.

(no offense to any eagles fans or steely dan fans, of course).

There are good guitarists and good song writers. Someone like Jimmy Page is good at both. Slash is a decent player but as for song writing I am not quite sure.

well i dont know about lyrics,,but i know that slash did write the riff to sweet child o' mine. that was a pretty great riff, man...enough said right there.

jimmy page is just an all-around genius. great at producing, songwriting, and guitar. IMO, he's the most talented musician to live possibly.

clapton was ok...but jimmy page had very similar roots (yardbirds, amongst others)....and Jimmy absolutely blows clapton out of the water on all possible fronts.

i guess i just dont take clapton as seriously as i do page (or even jimi hendrix.)

That is my all-time favorite riff!!!

i like hendrix cause he was so unconventional. never stuck to the same old scales...was very creative in his playing...

Walter Becker was the bassist then. The guitarists, when Steely Dan was a "band", were Denny Diaz and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. They had no trouble with the "Reelin In The Years" riff.

wasn't skunk baxter a sessions guitarist?

i thought steely dan was only walter becker and donald fagan.

and also, i believe chevy chase was actually the original drummer...wasn't he once quoted as saying that fagan and becker were the "worst musicians he'd ever seen"?

For the first two albums, they were a "band", and even went out and did live gigs.

From Chevy Chase's Wikipedia page:

Chase did not enter medical school; instead he played drums for a time with the college band The Leather Canary, headed by school friends Walter Becker and Donald Fagen. At the time, Chase called the group "a bad jazz band", but Becker and Fagen went on to success after they changed their band's name to Steely Dan. Chase is gifted with absolute pitch.[2] He played drums and keyboards for a rock band called Chamaeleon Church, which recorded one album for MGM Records before disbanding in 1969. Before becoming famous as a writer, actor and comedian, Chase worked in many jobs including as a cab driver, truck driver, motorcycle messenger, construction worker, waiter, busboy, fruit picker, produce manager of a supermarket, audio engineer, salesman in a wine store, and a theater usher.

I did not know this. I knew he played piano and organ, but didn't know he was a drummer or had a Becker & Fagen connection.

Whoever did that solo on Do It Again was fucking awesome.

how bout the solo in the middle of Whole Lotta Love? call me a douche, but the Stairway to Heaven solo is pretty damn good too.
