and i love it when peopel say "Buckethead blows Slash out of the water." mmm hmmm......Slash is already a god; Buckethead isn't even a has-been. (i admit, buckethead is a good guitar PLAYER, but to be a great guitarist takes more than just technical guitar skill. Slash has great charisma and is a great performer. also, to be great in a rock band like Guns and Roses, you have to look "cool". buckethead exhibits none of those qualities, IMO.)

You think Scott W is a shit singer???? you're crazy!! He's awesome....one of the best imo......The dude from STP was a shit singer
flex229 said:man, im glad you guys agree with me....i totally expected to catch some heat for that comment.
my friends always defend buckethead, saying he's better than slash, etc. i just laugh and call them amateurs...hahahaha
i've played guitar for 20+ years, and I can tell you that Slash is far more talented. I dont care about technical guitar playing ability. Slash is a badass, Buckethead is a clown.
Your friends are idiots.flex229 said:my friends always defend buckethead, saying he's better than slash, etc. i just laugh and call them amateurs...hahahaha
c-sharp minor said:I'm a massive buckethead fan. Truth be told, most of his stuff doesn't involve shredding whatsoever. Probably half his catalog is subdued and contemplative. Not taking anything away from Slash, mind you. Slash is ok for what he does. Very limited player though. Much of VR's material sounds like re-hashed GnR. Buckethead, on the other hand, shows great versatility, writes incredible melodies, as well as shreds.
flex229 said:also, shredding means nothing in terms of guitar playing...any 7 year old can turn up the distortion and play a shitload of powerchords. shit, i can shred...great guitar players don't bother to "shred."
ask jimmy page and slash.
flex229 said:ya, slash may be a "limited" player, but he is an absolute master at what he does. no one can play a Les Paul like Slash can. he has absolutely mastered the art of sustain on that guitar.
man, no offense to you,,but he needs to just take the goddamn "bucket" off his head...lol....shit looks stupid. then maybe I (and others) will take him more seriously.
it is honestly the dumbest thing i have ever seen.
hanselthecaretaker said:I think this album will punctuate what's really going on in Axl's head.
c-sharp minor said:Sort of like wearing a top hat on stage?
Appearance has ZERO to do with the quality of one's music. Technical ability merely enables one to more effectively translate their vision into musical reality.
flex229 said:here's a question i have for you, now that we're on the subject of guitar players: I have always been pretty unimpressed with Clapton. He just seems very uncreative and very pentatonic. strict blues scales. seemed to never venture out of those particular scales. what are your thoughts about that? when people say "clapton is god," i laugh a little.
SouthernLord said:AXL MUST DIE. I remember my Uncle had a shirt that said that back in like 91. I thought it was the coolest shit ever. I was a fan back in the day and now I could give a shit less. I know I won't be paying to hear it when it comes out.
Beachboy6294 said:I was 18 yrs old in the Army and almost got the Appetite for Destruction album cover tattooed on me!! An older wiser guy told me to never get a band because they may break up or you'll not like them later or just don't!! I am glad I didn't!
flex229 said:that's fucking awesome. i'd give you k, but it says i've given you too much already...haha
flex229 said:appearance has everything to do with being a performer. you can never be considered great if you look stupid on stage, IMO Slash wore a tophat to make himself look taller. he's a really short little guy. hard to compare a tophat with a KFC bucket, but hey, it's whatever.
i never boasted about my lack of ability; i never claimed to be a great guitar player. i think i was trying to make the point that any prepubescent teenager can "shred."
actually, now that i re-read your post,,i misread...i thought you tried to assert that amongst other things, buckethead can "shred." my bad...i think i misread.
and i agree, page was much more versatile,,but i think my point is that he was a master on his guitar. (i believe it was a les paul)
and i believe slash is too, and i know he used a les paul (actually, he used a Les Paul copy to record. he only performed with a real Les Paul.)

Beachboy6294 said:Slash is the man!! He has nothing to prove!
Army Vet said:Izzy wrote 90% of the songs for Appetite for Destruction. Izzy is the man.
Army Vet said:Most people don't realize Izzy was the main song writing force behind GNR. Slash got all of the fame because of his solos and hat but Izzy knows his shit.
c-sharp minor said:Hey man, sorry it took me so long to reply. Mother's day stuff.
I like Slash as a player. I just think he's overrated. imho.....and that's all it is, just my opinion.
Clapton was ahead of his time. You have to look at the era in which he received his name. He was actually one of the most technical players around, especially when he was with Cream in the late 60's. Then Hendrix came along.
I'd go more along the lines of this..."Clapton was God"....now we have "God 2.0".
While I'll argue the virtues of any guitar player I admire, when it comes to music there really is no such thing as 'better', just different. I'm not the most amazing player on Earth myself.

flex229 said:man, i dont know if i agree. i think some guitar players are "better." for instance, it's hard to argue that Jimmy Page isn't "better" than say some pud like Glen Fry from the Eagles or that clown from Steely Dan.
steely dan supposedly had to use mostly sessions guitarists because the guitar player was so bad. the guitar player couldnt do that riff in "Reeling in the Years" supposedly. Walter Becker is his name i think.
(no offense to any eagles fans or steely dan fans, of course).
Army Vet said:There are good guitarists and good song writers. Someone like Jimmy Page is good at both. Slash is a decent player but as for song writing I am not quite sure.

flex229 said:well i dont know about lyrics,,but i know that slash did write the riff to sweet child o' mine. that was a pretty great riff, man...enough said right there.
jimmy page is just an all-around genius. great at producing, songwriting, and guitar. IMO, he's the most talented musician to live possibly.
Army Vet said:I was never impressed with Hendrix either.
Page has to be one of the best guitarists ever.
hardrock said:I think there has been to much build up for this to ever live up to it's expectations.

Mr. dB said:Walter Becker was the bassist then. The guitarists, when Steely Dan was a "band", were Denny Diaz and Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. They had no trouble with the "Reelin In The Years" riff.
flex229 said:wasn't skunk baxter a sessions guitarist?
i thought steely dan was only walter becker and donald fagan.
and also, i believe chevy chase was actually the original drummer...wasn't he once quoted as saying that fagan and becker were the "worst musicians he'd ever seen"?

RottenWillow said:I like them both, but Page's solo in Heartbreaker is pretty amazing.
Mr. dB said:Yeah, Jeff Beck is a monster.
RottenWillow said:The sound is a lot like Jim Mankey on that song.
