Chemistry gurus: how long would powdered Ox be stable in water?

I wouldn't use water. If you use some sort of OTC alcohol make sure you know what the additive is so you don't poison yourself.

I've never seen an ox cap, but surely they don't just put 10mg of ox powder in there with nothing else?? It must be cut with some sort of filler, and if this is the case then your safest bet is to empty the contents and divide in two (keep it as a solid).

If you want to use alcohol get your hands on some absolute ethanol with nothing else in it.

Very true, there is 10 mgs of active substance, surrounded by fillers. This is why breaking the cap open doesn't make sense -- it would be very easy to lose powder this way... Even if you could do it and not lose ANY powder, it's not likely that you would split the active ingredient equally... It would seem you would get more even dosing if you were able to dissolve it into a liquid form.

I've already ruled out water based on the prior posts.

Ethanol is grain alcohol and it will be ok to injest, try to get over 90% pure alcohol because any less will have water in it. Make sure the grain alcohol you get doesn't have methanol because they put this in and it makes it highly toxic, it has to do with the tax on alcohol law. try for pure grain or ethanol

C-H3-C-H2-OH

Great information! How do I make sure of these things though? Does anybody know of a specific brand? I assume we're talking about Everclear?

Put into Absolute clear. The dosing patter is good.

This is Vodka (Absolut), right? Will this alcohol meet the above-mentioned requirements?

Machine,

It seems that you believe that the ox and the filler inside the cap is not homogenous, so you think that splitting the powder would give you unequal portions. I doubt this is the case, I think you'll fing that all pharmaceuticals that come in caps have been well mixed (till homogenous) with the fillers contained. I can't think of anything easier than opening the cap, making a line out of the powder, taking half one day, and the other half on the next day.

I don't like the dissolving idea, perhaps for other steroids, but not ox. If you dissolve in alcohol chances are there will always be a little bit of water present, and therefore you risk hydrolysis of the lactone moiety in ox (decomposition).

If it were me, I wouldn't risk it (considereing the price)

You bring up a good point. The caps in question are of the undeground, generic variety, not what you would get from a pharmacy. (however, they've tested well through Fonz, and are backed by a lot of vets)

There was a pretty good debate about ** arimidex that led me to this line of thinking about even distribution. It is more expensive to produce drugs in a homogenous manner, and in an underground non-prescription application I'm not sure they'd go through the expense and labor. I guess I don't know that the powder inside is not homogenous, but on the other hand, I don't know that it is. Even if it were, 10 mgs worth of tiny specs of ox in 200 mgs of filler might be pretty easy to lose if the cap were opened. How would you do it? On a mirror, split it with a razorblade and lick the mirror afterwards??

Additionally, wouldn't leaving half a line out cause problems with degredation due to being exposed to the moisture in air and other factors?

BTW, not busting your balls here, just getting your take...

I take your point about underground producers possibly not making the effort to homogenize. I'm afraid I don't know whether they would or wouldn't. If I was to take a guess I'd say they would, because 100-200mg of powder is easier to handle than 10mg of powder for them. Think of the capping machinery they use. The smaller the quantities, the more expensive the machinery and the greater the error in quantites. I bet they would premix the ox with filler, then set up there machinery to deliver 200mg of homogenous powder per cap.

Although I've never opened (or seen) an ox cap, I've opened plenty of other caps, so this is how I do it. OPen the cap and tap contents out onto a plate, mirror, whatever. You'll find that almost none of the powder sticks to the inside of the cap, so you don't loose much. Take a card or blade and make one thin equal line out of the powder. Half the line and separate the halves. Lick your finger and pick up one half and swallow. Keep the other half in a safe place till the next day.

Most compounds degrade quicker in solution than in solid form, ox would be no different. It will not degrade in a day.

I like your line of thinking. It would be a hell of a lot simpler. Additionally, you could ingest the empty cap shell to eliminate worries of any sticking. Maybe this is the way to go. Hmmm...paradigm shift... I'll have to mull this over...

I wonder if anybody has specific information about oxandrolone oxidation (or other property degrading factors) in air...
