Charleston, SC area

Anyone know how much living expenses are around this area? In other words is it insane, acceptable, or cheap?? For basis, avg apt in my area right now is about 550/month for a 2 bedroom. I would consider Atlanta expensive (900 or so/month).

And why do you say that?
Hey now... I may not be the most excited about my current situation, but please do not insinuate that I want to go the route of SUPER FANTASTIC suicide!!11!1.

I really like this place after visiting it a few times in the last few years. ANyone know much about it? does the novelty wear off? Seems like an awesome place (and the surrounding areas.)

Charleston is a pretty cool place to live. The tourist season might annoy you, but you will learn where to go to avoid the tourist traps. Apartments will run you about $550 for a one bedroom, $700 for a 2 bedroom, more closer to the city, less the farther out you go. The cost of living in the area is not bad. Unlike a lot of tourist areas, there is a lot to do year round. The attitude in Charleston is more liberal than a lot of southern places. People take a live and let live approach for the most part.

Thanks Big4LIfe, I would give you my worthless karma but I'm fresh out.

Do you happen to know if the Mt. Pleasant area is expensive?

I am from that area. It is consistently cited as most polite city by whomever does that rating each year.

Yes but it's a nice area. I have relatives that live there. It's a pretty popular place to live without actually living in Charleston.

Thanks guys. Out of all the "big cities" (not that its huge) of what i've been to, it seemed to be the most non-intimidating (as opposed to Los Angeles, Seatlle, etc).

I figure with the big bucks I'll be making soon, I can score a beachfront on Isle of Palm.

They will have to be mighty big bucks.

My best friend has a place at Wild Dunes. It sits on no. 15 green of the golf course and is not beachfront.......worth about $750,000+. Can't magine what a beachfront spread would go for.

no beachfront here under 8 million anymore.

I would be pretty nervous about putting that much in a house when hurricane evacuation route signs are posted right down the street.
